State of teams in AFCE

Recommended Posts

Teams have really gotten worse, while I think we've gotten a lot better. We just might be able to compete, not because we're a complete team but because teams are coming back to the pack. This is where I wish we had a really proven coach. When teams are equal-ish, coaching in the NFL is the difference.

meh

The Bills easily have the best QB

The Dolphins or Bills likely have the best coach.

you could definitely argue we have the best roster on paper, but things quickly fall apart if Rodgers is shot or we are faced with our usual sh*tty injury luck

You know who else is saying this exact same thing at the exact same time, except instead of "Jets" it's their teams name?

Every fan of every team in the NFL.

P.S. It's more correctly stated as Jets Loathing, not Self-Loathing.  Doubting the Jets are the best team in the NFL has nothing to do with hating oneself.

You think there are Bills fans that are sitting there right now and saying their team got better? Do you think the Bills got better? Forget about the Jets. I'm asking about last year's division winner.

No.  They are thinking at least "we" have Josh Allen.

The optimist in me says we have a pretty damn good roster on paper. The defense has been really good under saleh so that doesn’t worry me. The Oline should be better than last year. Love the Mike Williams addition but still need another wideout. If we can stay mostly healthy I see no reason why we shouldn’t be able to compete for the division.

The Jets fan in me says don’t be stupid. Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Might not be 4 snaps into this season. But at some point this thing will turn sideways.

How many years did we hear that the Patsies had taken a step back? That the gap was closing? Only for it to open right back up again as soon as the games started again?

Someone will have to explain to me how the Dolphins and Patriots took these huge "steps back".  Reminder, the Pats beat us 50% last year despite sucking (in before a Wilson Truther without irony says it was all Wilson's fault, lol).

Buffalo looks a bit weak at WR today, post trade, but wouldn't you know it, we have this thing coming up called the NFL Draft, and they have picks too.  They'll likely get a WR or two before all is said and done.  I expect their D will be just fine by Week 1, and that the guy you all called a "RB" will have solid enough folks to throw the ball to, lol.

We look better, and yet somehow more fragile on O, on paper.  And "Rodgers will fix it" i.e. the same mantra we heard last offseason.

Maybe he will, as I said earlier today, maybe Rodgers roars back at 40, post two years of injury and declining play, and puts up an all-pro year.

But it's far, far from a sure thing.

It's one thing to be steeped in Jets pessimism, it's another thing to completely ignore the fact that the Bills and Dolphins have been gutted this offseason.  If the Jets can't compete for the division this year, I'm not sure they ever will.

Currently the Bills are not as good as they were last year. You can spin it anyway you want.

Again, not saying the Jets will capitalize on it.  The Jets are the ******* Jets.  Just saying based on how the Bills and Fish offseasons have gone, if the Jets can't at least put themselves in the conversation this year, they deserve all the derision and more.

The Dolphins lost Wilkens, Hunt and Rip Van Ginkel.

Much I want to think this jets season will be great, these players have yet to play a single down together.  Hopefully it won’t take much time for this oline to come together.  As for the other division teams, I think only the patsies can be considered in disarray. The other two teams had shed vets for the future.  This might hurt but it also might help them going into the future.

Who did the dolphins lose?

Josh Allen will be an interception/turnover machine this season - just like last season. Problem is their offensive talent isn't as good at this point to cover up for all of his mistakes. People that think Josh Allen is better than Arod - even an injured Arod, are not remembering how turnover prone Allen is and who Rodgers is. He rarely turns the ball over and is way more accurate, and oh yeah, he's a first ballot HOF QB! Also, he's on the better roster. It's the Jets division to lose. Buffalo must have a slightly harder schedule to boot.

I'd take current Josh Allen 10 times out of 10 over current Aaron Rodgers.  We are not getting hof Aaron Rodgers, we are getting one foot out of the league Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers doesn’t need to be MVP Rodgers.

He needs to stay healthy and be a good to above good QB.  I’ll take around 10th to 15th best in the League who adds some clutch moments and holds his teammates accountable on the field.  I care less what he does or says off it.

The Jets finally need some good luck in the health department and would be wise to use the draft (which they also have along with the Bills) to add their own WR and some OL depth.

Roster wise:  Jets are the most talented in the AFC East and I’m not even sure it’s that close.

I was legit curious how a Dolphins fan thought of your "was gutted" claim.  So I called my brother the die-hard Dolphins fan.

He enjoyed the joke, thought it was hilarious.  He has no idea what would make you think his team has "been gutted".

With that said, he did say he thought the Jets were "the most improved team in the AFC East, on paper" so at least there is that.
