AFC QB Rankings - If Healthy, Where Does Aaron Rodgers Fit In The List?

Recommended Posts

Unless I missed someone (again, we're talking AFC only), I think these guys are his competition.  Where does AR8 fit in here?

Patrick Mahomes

Joe Burrow

Lamar Jackson

Josh Allen

CJ Stroud

Justin Herbert

Trevor Lawrence

Just think of the list of QB's if you were asking about Zach Wilson. It would be a mix of NFL QB3's and UFL QB1's.

For various reasons, I'd prefer to be going into 2024 with:

1. Mahomes
2. Herbert
3. Burrows
4. Jackson
5. Tagovailoa
6. Allen
7. Stroud
8. Any of the 2024 Draft Pick QB's, Williams, Maye, Daniels, McCarthy, Penix.

I am not of the belief that Rodgers will win anything meaningful in NY.  A "save the gM" long-shot trade, an all-in that has (and IMO likely will) fail to deliver the goods.

So the QB list above reflects current AFC stars I'd rather have (Mahomes et al.) as well as young QB's with what would appear or potentially could be long futures ahead of them of high level play.

We're in purgatory at QB.  Tied to Rodgers for likely as long as his ego demands he play, for better or worse.

But in fairness, when it comes to the Jets, extreme cynicism is my default setting, so nothing new here.

You should do a poll

1. Mahomes - babe Ruth level status

2. Rodgers - absolutely awesome, get the benefit of the doubt if healthy.

3. Burrow - very reminiscent of Brady. Needs to stay healthy

4. Allen - ceiling is as high as anyone ( only QB at his best close to Mahomes, still too wild sometimes) modern day Favre

5. Herbert- ceiling is as high as 2

6. Stroud- could move up fast

7. Lawrence and Lamar tied

8. Tua- could move up, underrated by dolphins fans

9. Russell Wilson - could be a great fit in Pittsburgh. Pickens is a monster

10. Watson. - was a top 5 QB but is really really strange and idk what to expect.

Long term? Way down the list. None of those guys would get dealt for him.

For this season? Definitely no worse than 5th,and anywhere from 2-5 is defensible.

Josh Allen is a choke artist. Why is that?

I remember Allen doing " Elway the drive" twice in the final two minutes of the KC 13 seconds game....

How many 4th qtr comebacks, gw drives does Allen have since entering the league?

Allen also has the lowest int percentage in NFL playoff history ( min 350 attempts) pro football reference....

Allen has the second most TDS and yards in NFL playoff history for a QB in his first ten playoff games.

Allen has the 5th highest passer rating in NFL playoff history ( min 350 attempts) pro football reference

That said I still think prime Rodgers is better. And until Allen wins a Superbowl I won't put him above the greats that did.

Allen sucks when the game is on the line. Allen will NEVER win a SB. Get used to it.

Allen proved everything imo in the 13 seconds game, like I said, He did" Elway the drive"twice. Very few QBs of all time put in that situation would be that great....

Marino, Fouts and Kelly never won the big game. As great as Rodgers is, he only got one and won it.

Unfortunately it may never happen.

If I had to put money down, I do think he will get one eventually. But football is cruel even to the all time historical greats.

Shanahan and Terrell Davis saved Elway

Nah. That was his one shot. Close but no cigar. Too bad 😕

You could be right. Especially with a healthy Rodgers

It's not about Rodgers. It's about Patrick Mahomes who owns Allen. You had your shot and you swung and missed.

The Bills are cooked.

I still don't understand how outside Mahomes the jets get beat if they put Odunze or Nabers opposite Wilson with our defense.

Even the most cynical jets fan had to admit that

So the Bills are out? I agree by the way.

To be fair he was hurt and his wrs were hurt.

So if we’re giving QBs a pass for their injured seasons the last two AR8 seasons healthy were back to back MVP seasons.

It's possible. Allen is 3-2 vs Mahomes since 21. 13 seconds included...

Allen is also the highest rated QB vs Mahomes among current QBs and retired. Allen has the most wins vs Mahomes in arrowhead among QBs currently or retired and has the highest passer rating in arrowhead currently among all QBs.

Mahomes is transcendent tho so its hard to say. I don't think he'll win it every year and again Allen is the only QB who at his best can beat Mahomes at his best.

Keep in mind Allen is putting up historical numbers without a Bill Walsh or Andy Reid...

My criticism of Allen is he's too wild, it's his greatest strength and weakness. Favre was the same.

So you're probably right given the odds and how great Mahomes is and the AFC.

I just think he's too great not to get one. But again they said the same about Marino and Fouts and Moon

Yes. In my earlier post I said the jets should be favored. I made a whole thread about it . I said if Allen wins the division this year he would obviously have put up good numbers and should be the unanimous MVP. This will be the Allen and the bills hardest test, especially with rookie wrs and a youth movement/ transition year

Yes. Rodgers gets the benefit of the doubt. If you're not giving Rodgers the benefit of the doubt I have to seriously question if you're just a hater like Canty or Nick Wright
