Trade for Hendon Hooker

Recommended Posts

I know he’s old, but instead of drafting Spencer rattler, why not take a flier and trade a fifth for this kid. Detroit doesn’t need him. They are going to pay Goff. If he sits behind Rodgers and tyrod he can learn a lot, and if he learn well it’s low risk.

The kid had alot of heart and killed his value when he got injured/being 24. If he sucks it’s a low risk pick.

Rodgers is on record saying he wants to play 2-4 more years and the Jets just signed Tyrod to a 2 year deal.

The Jets aren’t drafting QB before Round 6, if at all, and they sure as hell aren’t trading a pick for a 3rd string QB.

Joe Douglas and Robert Saleh don’t give two wet sh*ts about this team 3+ years from now (and neither do I). Their asses are blistering and they’re thinking about little beyond this season. This should be blatantly obvious to everyone.

I doubt if Detroit would do it but if they suddenly felt they wanted a 4th rounder more than keep him I trade for him in about 2 seconds.  I'd even consider moving the 3rd rounder perhaps if we traded back.  Hooker is a very good QB prospect and we've seen what you get with fresh faced 20 year old qbs. they often fail.  I don't care if the guy is 25-26.

If he’s as good as the OP says, why would Detroit want to move a 25yo backup QB they have under control for 3 more years on a rookie deal when they’d immediately have to find someone just like him as a replacement?

This.  Goff is a partial mush and they need a plan B around in case they decide their plan A leaves too many points on the board for a guy who will command ~ $45M per.

1) Hooker is their long-term plan B under team control for 3 years that they’ll see no reason to move.  I was agreeing with you for Pete’s sake, lol.

2) I just wanted to be able to say partial mush.  It’s like a Sam Darnold but better.  Darnold was full mush.  Goff is just a partial mush.

Its forward thinking. Detroit clearly was very high on him, and they were hedging their goff bet. Its worth a shot for a third string QB with potential to be a starter one day. Even a very good backup.

I dont know if hes good, I think he has potential, and detroit doesn't need him because they are going to have to give Goff alot of money. They also need a competent, experienced backup, because they are a win now team.

Well, they're stuck with Zach as the #3, and you want to trade more draft picks for a 26 year old who has never played in an NFL game.

If the Lions like him, they'll keep him as their #3, he makes a base of 915k for the season, if he's moved he has a dead cap hit of 869k.

Detroit drafted him in the third round knowing he was recovering from a torn ACL.  They like him.

You’re one of the guys I like here, so I’m not looking to rag on you but we have a 40yo QB and are the definition of a win now team also.

Yeah and with that being said they are not getting much help in the late rounds  this year anyway. Agree though they are not trading any picks for Hooker that would be ridiculous. The chance they draft a QB is based on who they like and where they fall. I would think if you had a QB rated high like second round high and he falls to the 4th or even 5th round you might take a long hard look at that.

Hey I dont take it personal! I agree with you on that point, but we need some sort of transition plan, and it seems like the perfect time for a developmental QB with two excellent QB's on the roster. Hooker was undervalued because of his age and his injury, and Detroit has zero use for him because Goff is so much younger.
