bman
Do do the success of Gates is San diego...do you think shotty wants Davis... ... Give Ramsey some weapons... I want the Jets to trade down and pick Davis. 1a) Davis 1b) OT 2a) Addai The offense would be a LOT better.

GreenBeans
Have we learned nothing from: Johnny Mitchell Kyle Brady Anthony Becht Jets and TE's in the first round do not mix. Baker is fine for this year.

Matt39
Davis is a once in a lifetime type player. You can't just consider him a tight end either. The guy can be spread out as well. Cause major matchup problems. Aside from Reggie, he's the best playmaker in the draft and I'd have no problem with the pick.

He played receiver in college a lot and runs between a 4.3 and 4.4. Have Davis and Coles as the receivers and Baker as the tight end. Destroy a defense. Baker is fine for this year. All the doubters will bring this up but Vernon Davis is head and shoulders better prospect than what those oafs were. I guess we should never try to develop a young qb either because of what happened with Browning Neagle and Chad Pennington. Give me a break. I guess we should never try to develop a young qb either because of what happened with Browning Neagle and Chad Pennington. Give me a break. I don't know ... Becht was a pretty good prospect as I remember. Davis is obviously a better prospect than all of them, especially as a receiver. However, he is not a very highly touted blocker. In fact, it's been said by many that he is not a very good blocker at all. Considering our offensive line, that would make me nervous, as I think that's something we need in a TE. Hey Pete, you missed this part I guess: Baker is fine for this year. TE is a LUXURY position. This team has several more pressing needs than another "can't miss" TE, IMO. Shadetree
I've always liked Baker. I feel he's an underrated TE, and I got the impression the staff thinks the same. Didnt they re-sign him on the cheap early on? IMO, for this team, trading down for Davis is the only way to take him. Some other teams soon after us in the first round will need to seriously consider him.

He was going to revolutionize the T/E position. And Becht was a talented prospect also.

This team has several more pressing needs than another "can't miss" TE, IMO. Well you seemed to miss the part when I said we should draft Davis and start him at receiver, a position he played quite often in college and has the speed for. If you don't think we need a receiver bad well I have some stock in Enron my friend can sell you. Coles is going to get double-teamed, McCareins stinks, Cothery is nothing special, and while I like Baker he is coming off a broken leg and wasn't that great to begin with. For the guy commenting about his blocking. Yes, he's not a great blocking tight end but he wouldn't have that problem as a wr. That's why I said start both him and Baker at TE and give Ramsey something to throw to.

I would say draft a wr but I don't see any wide receivers in this draft that impress me. Vernon Davis is the best receiver in this draft and he has proven that he can play the position. Can you imagine corners trying to lock this guy at the line of scrimmage? They're going to get killed. If he doesn't kill them at the line of scrimmage he can burn them with his 4.3 speed.
