Maxman
I wanted to root for the Mets this year. Really did. But this whole "penis envy" thing that Met fans have. Well it makes it hard to respect them. You have a small one. Get over it.

Well it makes it hard to respect them. You have a small one. Get over it. I agree 100% Max, and in all honesty I am kinda pulling for the Mets. I like some of their good young players and it's hard not to root for a team when a great Yankee in pirating the ship. I just ignore the NWA (Not Worth Acknowledging) posters on the baseball forum and see things from a realistic standpoint. I have no reason to root against the Mets unless they play the Yankees in the WS. David Wright and Jose Reyes are just fun to watch as a baseball fan. Of course I hope Pedro breaks both his legs running off the mound to get away from a charging hitter, but other than that, I don't mind seeing them do well. Playing in that division of theirs they should win it easily so it's just a matter of how well they do in the post season.

Bob
I wanted to root for the Mets, too. I would have loved another subway series. All these bandwagon Mess fans, jizzing all over themselves because of a rare good start, has really ruined that. It'll be sweet when the wheels come off, though. Pedro's about due for a trip to the DL.

Bob
The Yanks had to cut off season ticket sales so there would be tix available for individual sale. That'll never happen at Shea.

Pedro's about due for a trip to the DL. OBTW, if you do engage in any discussions with the bandwagon fans, don't use any facts. They're simple to figure out for most but for some Mets fans it's kind of like telling Macky Sasser to just throw the ball back to the mound. Simple task but some people just can't do it. That actually should have been a whole different thread. I found out about that a couple of weeks ago. I've never heard of it before and don't know that it'll every happen again. Imagine a team telling their fans "sorry, can't sell you any more season tickets or nobody else will be able to come to the games" Thats incredible

However, that doesn't mean I'm not a baseball fan. I do my best to keep up with as many teams as possible. I have to keep up to speed on the Sox and Mets to help "correct" their fans when they go screaming about how their opinion constitutes a fact. NorthCoastJetsFan
I've been a Mets fan since 1962, and I can tell you these things run in cycles. I think it's an unfair comparisons in the early years of the Mets because NL fans in New York would have come out to see anything that wasn't the Yankees. From '69-'74 the Mets ruled New York while the Yankees sucked. You could have any seat in Yankee Stadium that you wanted, cheap. And you couldn't get a ticket whem Tom Seaver was pitching. It might have been earlier, but I think the Yanks drew about 500 fans to a game against the White Sox. Beginning in 1975, the Yanks took over the town while the Mets were in decline. This lasted until 1983, when the Yanks began to stink and the Mets began their run. The early 90's both teams were less than stellar, and were about even in terms of fan support. In the mid 90s, the Yanks again took over, and with only a bit of competition from the Mets in 1999-2000, has owned the town again. The pendulum seems to be swinging towards the Mets right now as the Yankees age as a team, and the Mets have younger, exciting players. But even though I don't think the Yanks have enough pitching, I'm not ready to write them off yet. Look, every team has it's bandwagon fans (and idiot fans). I've always been a Mets fan, and always will be, just as most of you Yankee fans will be also. The true test of a team's fans is when they are losing. If you're still out there wearing your hats and jerseys and going to game when your teams blows, then you're a fan. If not, then you know what you are.
