Locks, Bubbles, & Longshots after 1st Preseason Game

Recommended Posts

Nice job. A few spots I disagree. From what I’ve read:

Irv Charles almost a lock to make the team for specials

Barnes likely to make the team.

JBC and Stiggers on the bubble and probably competing with each other for a spot.

Ruckert seems like a lock.

Oliver seems like a lock.

McKinnley may be a bit higher than you have him.

Two observations:

1. I think Izzy Abanikanda could still make the team as RB #3/RB #4, and if not, is very likely to be a PS guy.  I don't think the team is selling off on him completely yet.

2. I think Kuntz is another guy likely to not make the team in 2024, but to be a safe PS guy for another year.  I think we all knew he needed some time before he's be close to pro-ready, and I'm sure the team hopes he can step up eventually.  Like when Conklin eventually leaves the picture (2025 perhaps).

Was waiting for this. Thanks.

I think Izzy and Solly stick, Watts to PS

Tough decisions on some good players. Interesting to see if any of the kiddos builds on Washington game and flashes again.

Kuntz at PS .

Nice job. I would move Carter Warren up one group, he is our back-up RT and will likely take over for Moses next year. Malik Taylor stealing Irv Charles spot? Charles is good at specials but that's it.

Sarge, when you make these lists, do you rank them based on how early the player got in the game, your observations on their performance, draft pedigree, camp reports or some combination?

Does the number assigned to each player in a group indicate which one is more likely to be kept?  For example Stiggers at 39 vs Ashton Davis at 31?

My gut feeling on this, which is just a gut feeling, is that there will be few surprises.  JD will play it conservative for a team built to win now.   When in doubt he will keep the veterans.

He should swap Leonard Taylor for Solomon Thomas, betting on high upside and the future, but he won't do that.  They don't want rookies making rookie mistakes and blowing games.

JD should not assume the players he cut will make his practice squad.  Other teams will sign alot of these players.  So he should be looking at other teams cuts to build his practice squad.

Whether Reddick is also traded will determine definitively one roster spot.   I just think at this point Reddick needs a trade to a team that will actually give him a raise this year (and has the cap space to do it) rather than stay with the Jets.  The Jets can't and won't give him a raise to make up for his fines.

    LIKELY INJURED RESERVE/PUP 🚑
  91. 3 Jordan Travis QB 6-2 212 ACTIVE NFI LIST

Your'e top 51 included 10 offensive linemen.  The Jets have in the past kept a maximum of 9.

IMO, Warren is an absolute lock to make the team.  That leaves Max Mitchell and Glaser.  Warren and Olu are our backup tackles.  Schweitzer and Newman are the backup guards.  Who wins?  Max or Glaser?  One of them will be cut.

They can and should find a way to let him recover his fines. (See Chris Jones last year). He is by far the best available edge rusher on a team gunning for a Super Bowl. He's the cherry on top of the sundae.

I want Martinez to make the team. That throw in the PS game was a thing of beauty....Zach like except he did it with actual defenders chasing him down as opposed to his pro day 😅

I was more impressed with peasely than Martinez

Me too.  Peasley played very well.

I was impressed with Martinez too, who made some really nice plays, but I thought Peasley was the better QB, though not the better athlete.
