No Reddick = No Super Bowl

Recommended Posts

Not just literally how his absence leaves a gaping hole on the d-line. Allowing teams to slide protection towards Quinnen, JJ, etc.

I also think it’s a vibe situation.

With Reddick starting week 1 in SF the Jets are on the right path.

If not, the Jets are tempting fate.

I’m an old guy and maybe I’ve done too much virtual aya like Rodgers. But Douglas’ stance towards Reddick, it’s all good until the football gods adjudge too arrogant.

LOL.   Now Reddick is the deciding factor for a superbowl victory.

That's so funny that I actually think you have a brass set for starting a thread based on it.

Post of the Week.

This is a very optimistic thread.  Thank you Joe Douglas for trading for Reddick who was the missing piece to a Jets SB this year.

I've been hearing on good authority that Joe D has thrown Reddick against the wall in his office and explained reality to him.  He will be starting in SF for sure.

Luckily Trent Williams has also been a no-show for camp with the 49ers, so that first game should go just fine.

This is correct.

He's an impact level player that can be the difference between wins and losses.  This is a win now team.  How often do we truly have a roster capable of a deep playoff run?

Why so many care about Woody's money is beyond me.  Check the ego's, pay the guy, get him in house and worry about the extra few million extra cap hit in two years when the team is rebuilding again.

What a sad take, just silly.

This is possibly one of the worst takes I have heard in some time on this forum. I mean really. Quite a bad take.

IMO its the OPPOSITE. Sure Reddick adds a stellar pass rusher to this already loaded D-line. But really, all it takes to fill his hole is for one of the young guys (who would otherwise not be getting those extra snaps) to elevate his game. McDonald, LT III, Clemons, Kinlaw, maybe even Eric Watts. I'm not saying one of these guys will jump out and provide production like Reddick might. I'm just saying it will be enough to fill in the gap on a stacked D-line line the kind the Jets already have.

If the Jets don't get to the SB, it won't be because of their D-line deficiencies (or defense in general). It will be because of their offensive deficiencies (o-line play, QB play, WR play, etc.).

As far as vibe. I highly doubt a new guy coming in, veteran or not, who hasn't spent any time with the team, suddenly holding out, will cause some kind of rift between players. If anything, the young player who gets his roster spot or extra snaps due to his absence will add energy to the locker room.

If it's to guarantee the money for this year I agree. However, for a multi year deal in my opinion you have to factor in Sauce, Wilson, and Breece contracts. Rather have any of those 3 long term than Reddick.

Question: If signing Reddick to a massive new contract results in him playing and doubling our chances of a ring (say from 20% to 40%), would you do it even if it meant losing Garrett or Breece or AVT or Jermaine?

I think this is where Joe Douglas is....

Joe Douglas is supposed to be an NFL GM.  Figure it the F out.

I'm sure he can work out a contract that gets Reddick in camp and still allows them to pay those three two years from now.   Remember we're likely not going to be paying big money to a QB then.

If I had to categorize Haason Reddick as a nice-to-have luxury or a vital need, I would definitely put him in the nice-to-have category.

The Jets are relatively deep at defensive line.  They have a rising, premier edge rusher in Jermaine Johnson entering his prime.  They have one of the best interior pass rushers in the league in Quennen Williams squarely in his prime.  They have a young, developing edge rusher who was drafted to be a specialist and has shown some flashes in limited reps last season and camp this summer.

Do I think Reddick is worthless?  No, he would be a very nice part of the rotation on defense, and if he's playing, he will make some impact plays out on the field this season.  Do I think he's the key piece that puts this team over the top to win a Superbowl?  Absolutely not.  This team will succeed or fail mainly on the backs of Rodgers, Wilson, Breece, Sauce, Quennen, and Johnson.
