I like Izzy, Brownlee, Taylor and McGregor. I really thought that Taylor and McGregor were 4th round players. Taylor was a high school standout with so much potential. Miami was a terrible coached team. And McGregor always made plays for Michigan. Izzy has that explosive running style. Brownlee shows great hands in college and needs to just run either better routes or to separate from his defender.

Izzy has the long speed that allen and davis do not.  Id keep 4 rbs.

If they cut izzy hed be signed by another team in a nano second.

I think you need a "maybe" or "not sure" answer.

I think following tonight's game, McGregor and Taylor definitely will be on the roster.  If there was any doubt, they removed it tonight.  I think Izzy should make it, and I think he will be.  I think he has looked better than Davis as a runner, and he played on the coverage STs unit tonight, so no one can say that he doesn't play  STs.

I'd be shocked if Codrington made it.  His returns were meh, but he didn't have great blocking tonight.  He made a couple of bonehead penalties tonight lining up in the neutral zone and holding.

I like Martinez's legs, but not his arm, and he holds the ball too long.  I don't know if it's his fault, or they're trying to turn him into a pocket QB too, but I thought that he should have been used on bootlegs and rollouts so that he had the option to run if no one was open.

Brownlee had 3-4 catches in the game, but still doesn't look ready.

I think the best way to look at it is how many in each position group the Jets keep.

QB:  2 (Martinez makes PS)

RB:  3 (Izzy makes PS)

WR:  5-6 (Brownlee is the 6th and might benefit if the Jets don’t keep Charles)

2 QBs, 3 RBs, and Charles becoming expendable (deeper team, new kick-off rules) OPENS the door not only for Brownlee but possibly for Taylor, Mcgregor and Covington.

DE:  4-5

- I wrote last week that Takk makes it over Clemons.  Only a year & half older and more explosive rushing the passer while showing signs as an improved run defender

- In my opinion, there is no room for McGregor who instead is added to the PS.  The Jets wisely maintain flexibility to go 5 DTs or 10 OL, possibly both

- Keep an eye on Jaylen Holmes as a sleeper who is stouter against the run

DT:  4-5

- 51/49 Jets keep Taylor in order to avoid another team stealing him from the PS.  This is a guy with higher upside than McGregor who was expected to be drafted

CB:  6 w/ possibility of 7 IF only keep 4 Safeties

- Codrington has a shot of sneaking on over our last pick in the draft (Key) but not at the expense of keeping 10 OL (which I believe the Jets will do)

LB:  5-6

- This is also where Codrington might just miss out.  The Jets might not want to risk losing any of Surratt, Barnes or Eguavoen

I heard a postgame radio interview with Style Bender last night and they asked Izzy about pass blocking.  He said he worked on it all offseason.  Something about "do whatever you have to do to protect the QB".  That's a good sign that he took things seriously.  We'll see if the CS thinks he's made enough progress in that area.

One other interesting thing (imo) was that he said he learned how to watch film.  He said that when he came into the league that he thought he understood how to but he's learned a lot about it since.  They asked him if he thought most rookies know how to watch film.  He said something like "other than QBs, probably not".

This is the right way to look at it, imho. I think four RBs is possible. I think it’s possible that once the dust settles, that fourth RB won’t be Izzy. Nice TD last night, but it looked like the jints forgot it wasn’t practice on that play the way they chose not to tackle.

I think the Jets keep a minimum of 6 WRs, possibly 7, and Brownlee is one of them.

Codrington’s an interesting case. I’d like to see him make it, and I think he has a variety of paths. I don’t think the Jets carry 10 OL, and carrying the last of Surratt, Barnes or Eguaven over him would basically be rostering one special teamer over another. Also in play is how big a role they see Gipson having on offense, and whether or not they want him or Corley involved too heavily in the return game this year. Codrington didn’t do anything great last night, but he also didn’t make any mistakes trying to do something great.

I think McGregor is better than Clemons.

We don’t really know how Clemons has looked against the starters in the scrimmages, vs. how McGregor has looked against other fringe players. I suspect they like Clemons in rushing defense more than as a pass rusher. There’s no doubt that there could be some churn on the DL that results in a semi-surprising move or two, especially with the Reddick situation. Does feel like the Clemons’ act has gotten a little old, though.

I think we know who Clemons is, a large bodied lumbering DL who can’t get to the passers in time and is subject to get late hits.  McGregor is 4 yrs younger and probably a better scheme fit.  IMO Clemons may stick around initially but his upside is so limited that it feels with the depth they have he’s not staying long here.

Agree. I think 3 QBs, 6 LBs and 10 DBs.

JD must be as traumatized as we are with the QB situation. I want an emergency QB on the roster. If I’m not mistaken the emergency QB has to be on the 53 man roster, is that true @Sarge4Tide?

when did you see McGregor go against real NFL starters to make that assessment ? Yes Clemons has been a dissapointment but he has real NFL exp.

As for Codrington He's probably the best returner on this roster because he's fearless and has no hesitation but that might not win him a job.

They changed the rule for this season.  Last year, the emergency QB had to be on the 53.  But coaches / GMs hated that rule, and the NFL agreed to change it for this year, so the emergency QB can be on the PS and be one of the gameday elevations:
