I think Gipson, Davis and Corley will handle returns.

Would have liked to find a spot for Codrington as a returner, but he doesn't offer much as a CB.

This is great. Only change I would consider is brownlee over Charles

Yeah, it could easily go that way too. I do think Boyer will bang the table for Charles, so we'll see how it works out tomorrow.

You don't have Jaylin Holmes anywhere. I think he's on the 53. McGregor to PS.

I'd like to keep him, but think the Jets will keep the younger prospects and hope to bring back Holmes on the PS.

In the end, he sees an easier path to playing time elsewhere and signs with another team.

I think it’s more likely that the Jets carry 7 WRs than 10 OL.

Brownlee just teases. I’d rather throw Smith on the 53.

Brownlee is not special, and the 6th receiver will not see the field much on offense, if at all. Charles is the right call. Codrington could take Izzy’s spot — 4th running back is another player who will not see the field barring 1 or maybe 2 injuries above him. However, given the punishment NFL RBs take, I do think a 4th competent back is nice to have. That one will be a close call, imo, and probably much of it will be based on whether or not the Boyer and the CS believe there will be significantly more kick return opportunities under the new rules. Interesting that the Jets were kicking the ball into the end zone on kicks on Sunday — I wonder if a lot of teams may decide to go in that direction, making the new rules less of a significant change that we may have expected.

I'm guessing they go heavy on OL this year, after last season's debacle. Protecting A-Rod is the prime goal this year.

I cant see them going into the season with 3 RB's, 2 of which are rookies. I think Izzy sticks

I'm not entirely sold on Izzy, and I could easily see him being cut or - possibly - traded for a Day 3 pick on cutdown day.

He did help himself at the weekend, but he's certainly not a roster cert. 4 RBs is a lot, especially when Breece will be the bell-cow, so that spot could easily go to a guy at another position like Codrington, an extra WR or even a TE/FB like Firkser.

A lot of teams might well think that giving the opposition the ball at the 30 is preferable to the risk of kicking it shorter and giving up a long return.

The owners probably should have agreed to move the touchback spot to the 35 to encourage more returns, but they look to have fumbled that opportunity.

I think Jets challenge this year as compared to previous years is that the guys they want to sneak to the practice squad are likely getting claimed by another team   They are going to need to be a bit more creative.  Do they put Mitchell on IR for a few weeks to save a spot?

  • Their defensive coaches really do a good job scouting and developing players.  This is actually a core strength that we want to keep.
  • But I think that means the Jets need to use that asset to their advantage.   They should keep younger players with upside and let go veterans who cost too much/who have reached their peak.   I think we have seen enough of Michael Clemons and Solomon Thomas.
  • Maybe there is enough here to save the $15mm on Reddick.  Let the Lions pay that and use the money to pay AR8 next year or a WR this year.   I think that results in a better team.

I agree with most, but i think this staff has a lot of trust in Solomon....dont think he's the guy they cut unless its just for roster maneuvering for 1 week (and then he's quickly resigned) until other teams rosters are set and it makes claiming 1 of the Jet bubble guys a bit harder for them to do.

The Reddick situation i think is a bit trickier.  As much as JD wants him here and he does make us better, JD doesnt want to look like he's getting squeezed by Reddick.  Hes got some serious contracts coming up in the next 12-24 months and if i think some of those guys are watching how JD handles this extremely closely.

Every year Jets fans argue about keeping 6 receivers and say it should be 5 and every year we keep 7. I do not see that changing this year,
