Takk McKinley & Leonard Taylor led NFL in preseason pressure rate

Recommended Posts

The pressure rates reported by jetsxfactor.com,

McKinley at 28% for Edges.

Taylor at 20% for DTs.

I've been critical of both but JD/Saleh have worked well these past couple off-seasons compiling and developing quality depth & fit on the Defensive side of the ball.  Should serve us well not just this year but next when we will likely need to say goodbye to a guy like DJ Reed & possibly Javon Kinlaw if he has a plus year, not to mention CJ Mosley after 2025.  Serious coin will need to be reserved for extending Sauce, Garrett, and Breece meaning the continued development of these players (and others) will be critical.

'Possible' 2025 scenario

1. Defensive Line

- Combo of McDonald, McKinley and possibly McGregor help fill the void that will be left by a departing Reddick

- Taylor develops into a top 4 rotational DT with starter upside

2. Linebacker

- Barnes slots in for Sherwood (UFA who might opt for more playing time elsewhere) to be developed as the future replacement for CJ or Quincy (if his price becomes too high)

3. Cornerback

- Jets extend Carter II at ~$10M but cannot afford the $17-18M Reed might command

- JBC and Swiggers compete to replace Reed as the starter w/ the other being the primary back-up

This is how you build consistently good teams.  Might also allow us to trade departing assets and collect more immediate draft compensation.

1. Defensive Line

Takk McSack, B McGregor & L Taylor III

2. Linebacker

Barnes & Eguavoen, Chazz Surrat & Mcrary-Ball all flashed last night.

These 7 guys looked pretty good, in all 3 pre-season games that I watched.

I know it's just pre-season, but I was pretty encouraged with what I saw from them.

This is how I see it happening - possibly with Echols brought back on a moderate deal too, with incentives, to compete for the starting spot.

I would love the Jets to keep both Reed and Carter II, but I just don't see it happening.  If you can only afford one, I go with Carter.

More reason to send Reddick's ass packing.

Good luck to these guys if they make the team.

More QB pressure (preferably of the sack variety) is always a good thing, a good thing we haven't exactly had much of in recent years.

With that said, they're bound to find NFL starting Offenses materially more challenging than the soon-to-be-FedEx drivers that they were mostly playing against in preseason.

The Jets shouldn't look for choir boys to be on their defensive line.

I don't disagree. Especially when it's not wasting that much money when it's an UDFA.

I am maybe against the majority where I like JD. Do I think he's made mistakes? Of course. As does all GMs. But he's taken a roster that was the worst in the league and has us as one of the best in the league in a few years. So I'm here for it.
