Rochester Jets
Full disclosure, I know nothing about playing center, but is it possible for your starting center to also be able to be the long snapper too? Seems like if the normal center could handle long snapping, that’d be a nice extra roster spot to have. Not sure if this is common or not? 🤷

The reason I ask is that based on what I've read, Schweitzer is a better OG than C, and doesn't have much experience at C. Newman has experience at LG, C, and RG, but a number of posters here and on another Jets site where I read and post, say that Newman is a better C than Schweitzer.

I'm not aware of any team in the NFL that has their starting C snap on STs.

I think from a practical point of view, the long snapper is practicing with the ST guys while the offense & defense practice elsewhere ... if the same guy was doing both, it would mean limiting practice time at each position.Sent from my Pixel 7 using Tapatalk
OtherwiseHappyinLife
Very talented starting lineup backed by a nice blend of experienced & promising depth. Outside of injury risk, my top concern is run defense, especially going into SF. A few additional thoughts: 1. I’d expect a (TBD) third TE to bump Izzy off the 53 2. Watts & Clemons are keeping seats warm for Reddick & Fotu. Jets will ultimately have 5 Edge and 5 DT 3. Happy for ‘surprises’ like Takk, the rookie DL, and Brownlee. Hard work goes a long way 4. Think the safety group will be just fine 5. I’d like to see the young LBs get more playing time, especially in coverage

Sent from my Pixel 7 using Tapatalk There is also some statistic about how long it takes for the ball to get to the P. Fractions of a second matter and these guys are true specialists. Maybe 20 or so years ago, backup QBs were holders and centers were long snappers. I liked the backup QB being holder because they were more effective for fakes, but I think Brunell was last one I remember doing it with the Saints before he came to the Jets. Those days are gone primarily for the reasons you mention - to give an opportunity for these guys to practice together.
Darnold's Forehead
A bit surprised they're going with 4 RBs (Izzy). A bit surprised they're going with only 2 TEs (granted Yeboah on IR). A bit surprised Newman & Schweitzer are only IOL depth. A bit surprised they're going with 5 LBs (Surratt).

Surratt was definitely a bit of a surprise for me. I expect him to be one of the first guys bumped because we are gonna use a 3rd Safety more than a 3rd LB

Jets always seem to have a long snapper.....I think ours has the longest tenure on the team. Not sure why our normal center (or back up center) can't do the long snaps too. I've also wondered why we have two kickers...one for punts, one for FGs. Again, wasted roster spots! I bet Zuerlein could punt, and Wes Schwieser (BU Center) could learn to long snap.

mrcoops
6 hours ago, NYJCAP2 said: So, the IR guys are done for the year, right? Since it was done before the start of the season? There was a tweak to IR rules this year - teams can now designate for return two players on IR before the roster is set. They are then eligible to return after missing 4 games. The Jets used this with Leki Fotu and Kenny Yeboah, so they can return this year. The other guys on IR, such as Malik Taylor, are out for the year. 1

Thanks, I didn’t realize the two extra IR spots added were able to be applied prior to season, nor that it was designated to those two. Better flexibility for teams final 53. Mr. Rogers
15 hours ago, Barry McCockinner said: Jason Brownlee should be replaced w/one of these guys who were cut today IMO WR - Terrace Marshall Jr. D'Wayne Eskridge Donovan Peoples-Jones Quez Watkins Noah Brown Noah Brown would be my pick, although his injury history is concerning. I will say, though, brownlee is more of an outside WR which we only have a couple of on our depth chart (especially if you consider that Wilson goes everywhere). DPJ is, IMO, the best outside guy of the group. Also, Rodgers seems to like / have a connection with Brownlee, so that may be a factor. Still though, given his propensity for slot guys Brown could quickly grow on him I think
Claymation
Do the Jets drop Charles and pick up Hardee? Will the combination of Ruckert/Allen be the FB for this team this year? Does a Brownlee get dropped for Reddick or do they drop a DL?
