Cinderella stories

So was Snacks and so was Huff.

I will remind you that in the story Cinderella gets the prince.  Are you suggesting that it never happens that a UDFA works out and has an NFL career?

I think JD has a method.  Draft picks at the various rounds need to have certain physical attributes.

After that they look for football players.

He does have a method, but that's not it.  His first year with the Jets he changed the way that the scouts evaluated prospects.  Mac had the scouts evaluating prospect for which round they would go and then who was the BPA in each round.  JD has the scouts looking for which players are scheme fits and BPA overall at their position, not by round regardless of position.  Within that they do look for certain attributes like speed, size, and RAS.  I'm not sure that they have a prototype for QBs, however, since Travis is the anti-Zach, and the first UDFA they signed at QB was huge with a cannon for an arm, but he had an undisclosed injury.  They then brought in 3 QBs for a workout and took Peasley, who's somewhat in the middle between Travis and Zach.  Then added Martinez perhaps because of his mobility and experience, but is lacking in arm strength and quick decision making, and lacking in pocket awareness.

Three UDFA's make the 53.

Bills trade for another UDFA in Codrington.

Panthers have claimed UDFA CB Shemar Bartholomew.

Heckuva job by the Jets FO this offseason.

I can see it being a "heckofa job" if the 3 UDFA we kept produce during the regular season, contribute to winning, etc.

I apologize, but I don't see the "heckofa job" now, today.

Finding a diamond in the rough is great, but making the team doesn't make a guy a diamond.  Playing well in the regular season over time does.

I also don't see cutting an UDFA who may then go on to do well with another team as a "heckofa job" for US.  After all, we cut the guy.

Doing a good job as a GM isn't about finding the most UDFA's possible, it's putting a roster on the field that wins.

Many of you said the same last year about Gipson and Brownlee, Gipson who had one great play and an otherwise underproductive season, and Brownlee who did nothing.  That's not a "heckofa job", we should have been better than we were at WR last year, frankly.

Bartholomew might be the one we regret letting get away. The most popular player on waivers, after a strong preseason:

We have so many CBs.   Hopefully next year we get more applications to fill the vacancies.

Yeah, tough for an UDFA to crack this group. Jets probably hoped to sneak him onto the PS, but his pre-season film obviously caught the league's attention.

Interesting. Don't remember hearing his name even once during offseason vs Stiggers, JBC, etc.
