CB Jalen Ramsey signs 3 yr $72.3 million extension

Recommended Posts

Dolphins signed CB Jalen Ramsey to a three-year, $72.3 million contract extension.

Ramsey will earn $24.1 million per year on his new deal and is now under contract through the 2028 season. If he plays out the length of this new deal, Ramsey would be 33 when his contract expires. After seeing several corners sign massive deals in the offseason, Ramsey once again becomes the league’s highest-paid corner. He played in 10 games last season, totaling three interceptions while earning a PFF coverage grade of 66.3. He’s recovering from a hamstring injury and hasn’t practiced in the days leading up to the Dolphins’ Week 1 matchup against the Jaguars. We’ll see if he finds his way on the field to close out the week.

That is not what winning teams do.  There is clear evidence that WRs, CBs and RBs decline in their early 30s (to varying degrees).

Yes, there are exceptions to the rule (30 year old Tyreeek Hill is holding up just fine) but there is already evidence that Jalen Ramsey has been declining the past 2 years.

BAD contract that will hurt the Dolphins unless there is an easy out after 1 or 2 years.

With the cap going up that's a bad deal on his part however great from a secruity stand point as it seems he's been banged up the past few years.

Money in the hand.

If he shows a visible decline (or suffers another injury) this year - which may very well happen - you can cut that money by more than half (if Miami offered him another 2026-2028 extension at all).

He'd be nuts to turn this down:

  • The risk is letting it all ride on another season of PB/AP play and good health is tens of millions.
  • The reward for waiting is just a few million.

Agreed, but the Dolphins, like the Jets, are "all-in" on this season. If they don't have some playoff success this year, McDaniel likely won't be fired, but he'll be on a very hot seat next season. Tua's cap hit this year in just under $10 million.. next season it's $59 million so they are kicking the can. They really need to win a playoff game this year so dealing with the cap later is not the most important thing to them right now.

Good.  Get it done Joe D!!!!

We need to lock up our young superstars.

Yeah sure! Why not?  A CB should be our priority when we are entertaining a QB "Doomsday" waiting to happen.  Engrave this response, because it may just happen sooner than later.

We will be drafting a qb and wont need to pay him for 4 years.

Bronxy could win the powerball and be miserable.  My goodness.

Sauce holds their opponents often. Let's keep a cloae track of penalties or burners this year.  IMHO, Sticky-hands Sauce is grossly overrated and it would be insane to drain the cap on a DB.

it's not the amount but what the guarantees are.  24 per year for a guy over thirty for three years is pretty stupid but i'm sure the doltfins gave themselves an out.  it might come with 24-30 million guaranteed with much of it coming this year.

Yes, a 2 time all pro is overrated.

What nonsense.

We all know how touchy he is against the receivers.  He gets away with holding often, let's be honest without a bias attitude.

If that is true, even more of a reason to sign him.  Michael jordan got foul calls no one else got.  Its a by product of being great.

What you're saying isnt a reason not to sign him, its even more of a reason to sign him.

I am saying that he is grossly overrated and this team doesn't have a clear path for a stud QB, unless you are counting on the young QBs on the roster.

Please stop oozing neurons during your wet dreams.  AR will not play a full season this year and we are going to face the harsh reality that we need to lock-in a signal caller sooner than later.

When AR retires, the clear path to a stud QB is to draft one and pray he is actually good soon enough to leverage the savings from his rookie contract. Get lucky in the draft for a change. That's the only path there ever is beyond an occasional flash in the pan season with a veteran like Vinny/Fitz/Rodgers.

Oh no ! The jets drafted a guy so great that he’s on a HOF / Ring of Honor career trajectory and will be counted as the best to ever play his position

Its a major symptom of the d-i-s-e-a-s-e.  You turn having a great player into a negative by whining about having to pay them big money.

Its pathetic.
