JetNation
The New York Jets open up the 2024 regular season with a trip across the country to San Francisco to take on the 49ers. After nearly two years of anticipation for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, he and and Jets new-look offense will take the field on Monday night. A restructured offensive line that see 4 new starters looks to keep Rodgers upright, with a full complement of skill position players at his disposal. During practice this week, depth lineman Wes Schweitzer injured his hand, which landed him on Short-Term Injured Reserve (IR), so he will miss at least 4 games. The team signed Jake Hanson from the practice squad in his absence. Linebacker Zaire Barnes was also placed on IR with a groin injury, with Sam Eguavoen brought up from the practice squad. Tight end Anthony Firkser and defensive lineman Jalyn Holmes were both elevated off New York’s practice squad. This is the first of three times they can be elevated during the regular season. Former Vikings running back and return specialist Kene Nwangwu was also signed to the practice squad earlier Monday afternoon. Relatively speaking, especially compared to what it has looked like for this team in years past.
