Jets Sign Center Connor McGovern Release RB Xaxvian Valladay

We have signed Connor McGovern to the practice squad and released Xazavian Valladay from the practice squad.
 

The Jets have signed OL Connor McGovern to the practice squad and released RB Xazavian Valladay from the P-squad.

McGovern (6-4, 306) played in seven games for the Jets last season before he was placed on injured reserve Oct. 31. He played the last four seasons with the Green & White and started all 55 games he played in. Originally a fifth-round pick of the Broncos in 2017 out of Missouri, he played three seasons in Denver before joining the Jets in 2020. McGovern took 3,055 offensive snaps with the Jets from 2020-22, the most on the team in that span.

Valladay (6-0, 200) signed with the practice squad after final cuts. He took 71 offensive snaps this preseason and 30 on special teams, finishing with 14 carries for 28 yards and 6 receptions for 62 yards. He originally signed with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Arizona State in 2023 before a stint with the Steelers. He spent last season on the Green & White's practice squad.

Good to have added depth inside.

I thought the guy might be Matt Hennessey, who the Jets liked in the draft a few years back.

But the Jets went with the guy they know best, McGovern.

McGovern is just awful.  Rodgers wont last a quarter if he has to take a snap for us.

They signed him after week one to avoid having to guarantee his salary for 2024.

Seemed like a no brainer all off-season.  Have to figure that he wanted to see if a starting job opened up somewhere and the Jets didn’t want to guarantee a backup’s contract.

Excellent depth for both C and G.  You can, truthfully, do worse than McGovern.

I might be wrong but I believe there's also something about signing a guy AFTER Week 1 that helps financially, perhaps guarantees around salary, etc.

McGovern is an excellent OL depth signing.

Filling in for Wes Schweitzer until he can return from IR.

Great move. From what I heard he never considered another team and was just rehabbing. My assumption is the Jets wanted to wait until after week 1 so his salary wouldn't be guaranteed.

Absolutely ridiculous to release Xaxvian Valladay. Sure he's a one-trick pony, but not sure I'd give up on that Scrabble advantage for a washed up 3rd string center.

I'll take CMG all day over Newman, so like this move a lot.

Hopefully he can get in shape quickly and be depth for us.
