Jets vs. Pats Observations

1. Smart game plan to throw early and often.  Pass to set up the run rather than run run pass scheme.  The Pats entered the game stout against the run and dared the Jets to throw w/ plenty of 8 in the box.  TheJets finally have the QB to make teams pay and it's refreshing to finally see game planning that understands that.

2. Yes, Rodgers still has plenty in the tank!  His processing speed still elite, arm still plenty strong & delightfully accurate, and legs seemingly rejuvenated.  I was shocked at his quickness evading the rush and on the move.

3. Breece, Braelon, Braelon, Breece, Breece, Braelon.

4. Love me some John Simpson.  He brings an attitude to the OL that has been missing for over a decade.

5. Isn't it fun to watch an OL block for their QB?

6. Hoping we catch a break with Morgan Moses.  The Jets have very bad luck with injuries.  Let's start to reverse that.

7. I wanted Bowers but Fashanu was a smart pick.  Happy to see him get some game action and not hear his name called after the whistle.

8. Great game for the tight ends, who maybe don't suck!

9. Is it just me or does Allen Lazard look like a good football player.

10. Happy to see Mike Williams continue to progress.

11. Will McDonald 5 sacks > Bryce Huff 0 sacks.

12. Wow, being creative and mixing in the blitz actually works.

13. Bad miss by Zuerlein.  Cannot have that against better teams.

14. Sauce still looks off.

15. Jets interior Offensive Line is on fire.

16. Hello Quinnen, nice to finally see you're still on the team.

It drove us all crazy that we were so reluctant in the past to throw early and often like we saw last night, but you now can see exactly why. If a QB doesn’t have the accuracy like you saw, throwing too often will just make the game uncompetitive due to too many turnovers. That’s why with QBs that we have had the last 15 years our coaches relied more on the running and D to give themselves a chance even though that formula will and has not resulted in getting to the playoffs. But, it is enough to remain better in contention since on the other side of it we would have won 0-4 games every year with the bad accuracy of the QBs we had. Heck, ARod maybe throws one slightly inaccurate ball a game like that last pass to Wilson, and even that was low where only Wilson had a chance to catch it and no defender could come close to intercepting it.

NE may have a bottom 2-3 Oline.

Shouldn’t effect our happiness today tho.

Pats offense is no bueno if they can’t get Stevenson going but their defense is decent.

Oooffffff.

I thought the Jets would win.

I figured A-A-Ron would find his legs eventually.  He seemed like pre-2021 A-A-Ron.

Congrats on the win.

Thanks!  And you guys will be back soon enough.  After over 2 decades of winning as much as you did, you were bound to hit a rough patch at some point.

Rodgers and Garrett Wilson seem to have a chemistry issue. Garrett was even shaking his head when he ran an out route on the left sideline and the ball was thrown 2 yards behind him. Then he catches a TD and immediately sprints to the sideline without celebrating with Rodgers/teammates? Very odd. Training camp animated discussions etc. they don’t seem to agree on what should be done on the field. Never seen them hanging out off the field either. Hopefully it’s just a stage and they figure it out…

Rodgers said as much about 5 and him getting on same page in the post game interview.

13. Bad miss by Zuerlein.  Cannot have that against better teams.

I've been concerned about Zuerlein since the last pre-season game, when he missed 3 straight FG attempts in a row, which is why I wanted to keep Austin Seibert on the PS who was money the entire pre-season and he was money for us in the brief stint with us last season, when Zuerlein was hurt - it sucks that he was signed by the Commanders, he was 6 for 6 in FG attempts vs the Giants last week, including the game winning FG near the tail-end of the 4th quarter, Seibert won that game for Washington, almost single-handedly.

You never want to give the opponent unnecessary momentum, by leaving points on the field. That was a 40 yd FG he missed last night & yes, I'm very concerned about Greg the Leg missing more FG's this season, when we really need them. It's going to cost us games, hopefully, not a playoff game.

I too am hopeful that Moses avoided a season-ending injury - the limp he had initially when first walked off the field, looked like it was gone when he was walking to the locker room.

Fingers crossed.

John Simpson seems to have some Alan Faneca in him, I love that nasty edge that he has. I definitely liked seeing him run over to confront the LB'er that body-slammed Breece Hall, but that hitting the guy when he was already on the ground which drew a flag, wasn't necessary - he has to real that in.

The offense needs to get in and out of the huddle quicker, this burning timeouts to avoid delay of game penalties is really getting old, I think it happened 3 more times last night, after happening 3 times vs Tennessee. Crowd noise wasn't a factor last night, so there is really no excuse for this to be happening - pay attention to the damn play-clock for Christ's sake, it's not that difficult.

8 penalties for over 100 yds - penalties continue to be a problem. We can get away with this against inferior opponents, but it will cost us against good teams & that's just way too much penalty yardage to be handing the other team, the coaches & the players really need to clean this up.

It was nice to Conklin & Ruckert get involved in the game, Mike Williams as well.

It was really nice to see Rodgers showing off the mobility that I was confident he still had and avoiding the rush & making those accurate throws on the run - we saw some vintage Aaron Rodgers last night.

Overall I was very happy with the performance - this is the first Jets game I've watched in a long time, where I wasn't uptight & screaming.

If opposing defenses cannot get to Rodgers with regularity it turns into a case of pick your poison for them.  We just added Williams, Conklin and even Ruckert to our list of "poisons" last night.

Fun times.

Everybody is that high on the offensive line?  They looked good but how many times did Rodgers roll out or run?  When <ahem> someone else was our QB today there would be cut ups of those plays saying he was forced to run for his life.   It's nice that isn't a death sentence anymore

Yep, the pass blocking wasn't as good at the Titans game.  There were a few 'oh sh*t' moments seeing a DL coming free.

But overall, a really nice game by the offense and plenty of signs that this has the makings of a very good offensive line.

Rodgers faced tons of pressure and escaped. The OL was adequate but not outstanding.  More consistency is needed.

16. Hello Quinnen, nice to finally see you're still on the team.

I saw all of the same.  Proceed with caution as the Pats are not a very good football team.

The best of what I saw was Aaron Rodgers.  Not only is the hof arm, mind and leadership still there, his legs are there too.

I had a feeling that Lazard would start concentrating when Rodgers was there to impress him.  Same deal with the offensive line.  Rodgers presence drives them

Wilson needs to flatten out his routes better. Always seems like he is going up field so throws to him are low.

Week one it looked like Wilson and Breece were the only guys Rodgers was willing to throw the ball to, two weeks later and he’s spreading it all over the field in a romp. Wilson is a competitor, and Rodgers missed him a couple times, and he was pissed he didn’t score his TD on the previous play - making that two yard TD more of a consolation prize. Getting Williams and Conklin involved was, frankly, awesome. Defenses have been focusing on taking Wilson away, but they won’t be able to do that if Rodgers can continually find someone else. Wilson will get his share. Rodgers always loves his #1 guy.

This type of competitor?

Good post.  That's exactly the way a good coach looks at games like this.  Always room for improvement.  I'd add in continuing to work on Rodgers Wilson chemistry.  Several plays they both would like to get back:

1. Wilson couldn't get feet in as he stepped backwards (first quarter; should have been fairly easy first down)

2. Rodgers throws short on 3rd down out route to the sideline (3rd quarter; timing route where Wilson broke open)

3. Rodgers throws short to a streaking Wilson on intermediate skinny post (4th quarter; 30+ yard potential)

This is exactly how I felt as well.  I think we will regret not keeping Seibert.
