Life as a Jets fan is a cruel joke.

QB with most TDs in NFL through today’s games? Sam Darnold.

QB with most passing yards in NFL through today’s games? Geno Smith.

But hey, we’ve got an old ass ornery geezer at QB.

Perhaps looking at the situation more abstractly makes sense rather than putting blame on guys who clearly have talent would be the better course of action going forward….

You left off Joe Flacco, just off a win.

Having geno or darnold is a qb wasteland.  Neither will ever win a big game but they play just good enough in meaningful games that they give u false hope.

They are current day ryan fitzpatricks.

Worse scenario a team can be in is have a qb like this.  Its fools gold.

Not surprised jet fans are fawning over this.

Clearly the Jets are in a better position having a 40 year old guy who already is beat up by week 5 cause the line can't block for him.

Haven't made the playoffs since Obama's first term and it's not looking too promising this year either...

Just wait and keep watching. It's not typical for players with talent to just disappear.

... It's the subpar coaching, grade school level ownership decisions, and impatient NY market that drives this insanity.

Takes time. Takes the right staff and right situation.

Exactly right.

Both Darnold & Smith went through several other teams, before they finally landed somewhere, where they became productive.

We are not the only organization that have impatiently dumped their QB.  Justin Fields, Mayfield, etc., have also risen beyond their original teams.

Being in the same company as Cleveland and the Bears isn't exactly the level to strive for.

I love this idea that this trash organization is actually good at finding secretly good QBs who just need to be unlocked elsewhere.  Gimme a break.  Mark Sanchez sucked at his 4 stops post-Jets and Christian Hackenberg couldn't even cut it in the AAF.  Zach Wilson will be out of the league no later than his age 27 season.  Not to mention trash heap midrounders like Erik Ainge, Bryce Petty and James Morgan.  Certainly lots of sitting and watching and patience worked with those guys, right?

The Jets suck at developing talent, sure, but an you name more than like 6 players since friggin 1975 or so that sucked here and went on to succeed elsewhere?  Even if you add Darnold and Geno to that list its pretty much just those 2 plus John Riggins, James Farrior, maybe Jonathan Vilma and like 1-2 others I'm forgetting.

The far bigger issue for the Jets has always been talent evaluation and, seemingly, an inability to properly judge things like positional value and how to navigate the market.  That speaks to larger issues, primarily an owner who both can't hire a quality GM AND can't help but meddle.

None of that suggests sticking with a QB who fails here is an optimal decisions.  When you run the numbers, there aren't enough guys like that to make the juice worth the squeeze.

Give me a break. It took 7 years and four organizations for Sam to figure it out. It took 10 years and four organizations for Geno.

The timeline was never going to work here.

Exactly.  When the Packers toss out a HOF QB every 15 years who needs to develope a QB.   Green Bay is the Jets tripple a football team developing QB's.  Next up Jordan Love 2040.

This all might be true - but it still, as the OP put it, a "Cruel Joke" watching those two lead the league.....With Sam being the MVP front runner through the first quarter of the season.

At least Geno was a value pick

Projected 1st rounder who sat in green room and never heard his name called

Zach had Ryan Leaf draft capital wasted on him

MaccDoofus burned 3 2nd rounders to move up 3 spots not knowing for sure which QBs would still be on the board when he could have sat tight at #6 and just taken Josh freaking Allen

Clueless franchise

You must live a very interesting life where just spew hot takes with nothing backing them up and blame everyone else because we tend to grip a little tighter to what actually happening. You’re a bigger clown than we even thought if you think the Vikings aren’t a legitimate contender. That in itself is really saying something.

It's almost like QB's need some time to develop. Unfortunately the way QB's are paid teams are forced to reset the QB clock if they aren't the exception and immediately good.

This is why when we start the rebuild AGAIN next year, you sign a young vet QB that was highly graded draft pick that didn’t pan out while on his rookie deal. There have been plenty of instances of this working out recently to not try with minimal investment while installing new offense/defensive systems and gutting the roster.
