Need Diet

Recommended Posts

I'm eating tons of crap making me fat and depressed and then eating more to feel better.

I'm not massive .. but I am 5'8" and 180 ... I need to get down to 165.

If anyone has a healthy eating regime .. would be awesome ... please share.... I'm failing.

I keep a pretty simple regimen.

Keep track of what you eat.  You will be surprised at how quickly your calories add up. Breakfast, soda, mid-morning snack, lunch & soda, energy drink, afternoon snack, dinner and desert.  It adds up quickly. There are calorie calculators out there with suggested calorie intake based off of height, weight and activity.

Keep track of what you eat. The otherside of that is the utter garbage we Americans eat.  There are healthy things that are not that healthy. I used to eat granola bars that you would think are healthyish.  The amount of sugar in it was crazy.

A thing I have done is fasting.  I did a 16-8 intermittent fast.  I restricted my eating between 11am and 7pm.  I still try to do it 3-4 times a week.  For me it was a good way to  control what I eat.

If you knuckle down, you could lose 15 pounds in a month. The key is keeping it off.

I went from eating a ton of crap and took it down to a half a ton. Haven't lost a pound.

Ultimately it really depends on what works for you (Everyone is different) and what you can stick to. But here are some simple guidelines to sort of frame your diet.

1. Look at food as medicine and investments (decrease future pain and doctor bills) instead of short term pleasure.

2. 80/20 rule. If you eat healthy 80% of the time and enjoy food 20% of the time you’re probably in a good position. However, this is good for maintenance (once you’re reached a health weight and fitness) an if you are looking for drastic changes do a 90-10% to start off.

3. It’s mostly math. Aim for sub-2000 calories a day and the weight will come off.

4. Exercise even if it’s “just” walking (very underrated exercise). 30 min per day, 1 hour per day, 15 minutes….something is better than nothing but keep it consistent

5. If you do #3 + #4 I guarantee you the weight will pour off quickly

6. If you add weight training (Even moderately) with #3 + #4 not only will the weight pour off but you’ll be sculpted and fit

7. Eat protein and vegetables. Don’t shy away from eggs. Red meat has a lot of vitamins, it’s not evil. Throw in fish but not too much tuna (metals) stick with salmon and white fishes. Go for 150-200 grams of protein a day (throw in shakes with no sugar).

You are big boned?

I"m actually reasonably in shape.  I work out daily and eat pretty well.  At 70 I'm finding it hard to lose any weight at all without dumping all carbs and sugar.  Good bread is my downfall.  The realization that I have to eat less and give up bread and pasta as I age is really pissing me off.

Those are my worst vices as well.  I love me some cookies and any pasta dish will have garlic bread.

I would be fine with a carnivore diet, but my wife is not about that life. 🤣

I was a ******* mess a couple years ago.  Triglycerides were in the 700's, High BP, High Cholesterol etc, etc, etc.

I'm an all or nothing guy that can be very determined to get things accomplished.  What I am not, is someone who can be moderate about anything I do.  It's balls to the wall or nothing.  When I drink with my friends, it wasn't a social event - it was a pay per view, televised, steel cage drinking match with anyone and everyone that wanted to get smacked down.  Ultimately I won all of those matches but it wasn't great for your health, LOL.

Because I have this determination I decided to go Keto and more exercise than I have done in a long time.  I settled on a 1,200 calorie diet with 20 grams or less of NET CARBS a day along with 30 minutes of hard biking in the morning and evening.  Absolutely NO alcohol.  I did this for a period of 3 months and lost about 78lbs.  It wasn't easy but after the first week or so my body was acclimated to using its fat as energy and the weight just poured off.  Don't take what I am saying as what I think you should do but I can tell you that I felt better and had more energy without all the carbs, grains and sugar in my body.  I did that to shed weight and then went back to a modified keto diet and would never look back.

As for the sh*tty blood work - It was gone.  I was eating 3lbs of bacon a week and my triglycerides and cholesterol were in normal range.

DISCLAIMER:  The first week blows donkey dick.  You would have headaches, chills, fevers, etc.  Also, I would recommend talking to a doctor before doing this although I didn't.

At any rate, with whatever you decide to do - Keep your head down and push through it.  Mind over Matter.
