KNOXVILLE, WATE-- Former Vol and current New York Jet Cedric Houston was involved in a car accident Friday night near the Crab Orchard Exit on I-40.

Houston was taken to UT Medical Center and was later released.

Wet roads have been blamed for the cause of the accident. Houston was the passenger in the car that lost control. It went off the road, up an embankment and hit a tree stump.

Houston was thrown from the car, but according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Houston does not have life threatening injuries.

According to sources with the New York Jets Media Relations Department, the injuries he sustained could cause him to miss the beginning of training camp.

No charges have been filed against the driver in this accident.

This is no small accident if he was thrown from the car, hasn't he heard of seatbelts? If he may not be ready for training camp in 2 1/2 months then he must have some kind of major injury. We may looking at Kellen Winslow type damage here. I think a RB may just have moved up the priority list for next week's draft.

He was thrown from the car (meaning he wasn't wearing a seat belt)

He was not admitted overnight to the hospital.

He might miss the beginning of training camp?

Something does not add up here. What exactly is his injury?

Given the fact that he wasn't held overnight one could rule out a head, neck injury, or serious concussion. Most probably he landed on his shoulder so things like a clavicle fx, AC joint subluxation/dislocation, rotator cuff tear, or a 'stinger' are high on the list. If he's lucky maybe he just was roughed up a bit.

I smell a broken leg.

Now that Houston is banged up Barton is going to tell us to replace him with the only player that matches his skills. Reggie Bush.

NFL.com wire reports KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (April 23, 2006) -- New York Jets running back Cedric Houston was injured in a one-car accident late Friday night.

He was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he was treated for injuries that were not considered life threatening and released.

The former Tennessee standout was a passenger in a car that went up an embankment on a rural stretch of Interstate 40, about 50 miles west of Knoxville, and hit a tree stump, Tennessee Highway Patrol officials told Knoxville television station WATE.

Charges were not immediately filed against the driver.

The Jets would not comment on Houston's injuries because he has yet to be examined by a team doctor.
