Okay fine. Now I’m curious. If you were in charge, at what point of this season would you have cut him?

I'll offer my opinion. I would've brought in competition weeks ago. Put a fire under him and see how he responds. That would determine next steps like cutting or benching or whatever.

Matt’s argument here is he wasn’t cut because Woody is cheap. I want to see his answer.

Stupidity, cheapness... does it really matter? But okay, I'll leave you guys to fight over it.

No fight… at least from my side. 😉

I just don’t see how putting a PK on IR to save 2 mil 12 days after spending $24 mil on Adams and Reddick are things a cheap owner does.

Is he dumb? Sure. Those two signings prove it. I’ll never understand why he made the Reddick signing the day before the must win Steelers game, same with the Adams trade.

You were arguing that he wasn’t cut because his contract prohibited it.

He wants to argue about how many seats were in the smoking lounge on the Titanic. Who gives a sh*t? Giant shipwreck, all hands lost.

At least a month ago. The QB is 40.

That would have been week 4.
He missed a 50 yd FG in terrible conditions a minute after the Titans missed a kick from the same distance both at the end of the game. So you would’ve cut a up until then hugely popular PK your GM signed to a 2 year 8.5 mil deal after that game or the next?
At that point of the season, Hall looked terrible. Would you have cut him?
Would you have cut Rodgers for not winning one of 3 consecutive games with the ball in his hands?
I won’t ask about Sauce, because to your credit, you opened my eyes to him last year. 😉

WTF are you talking about? Show me where I said that? You’re either making s**t up or confusing me with someone else.

I said they were smart to save 2 mil in a 2-6 season moving him to the IR.

No FO in the league is going to cut a PK 3 or 4 games into a 2year $8.5 mil contract.

First, I have no idea what he’s talking about with what he just said, and second, all I’m trying to do is have him explain how the guy who just spent millions on Adams and Reddick suddenly became the “he didn’t cut a pk because he’s cheap guy”

Where does any of that say “they were PROHIBITED from cutting him because of his contract?”

You’re just flailing about now like a fish out of water.

What is the point of bringing up his contract there. You’re implying they held onto him because of the money.

Can we just agree that not dealing with the kicker situation earlier was stupid AF and move on?

The point of it was, as I’ve said about 4x now… no team is going to cut a PK 3 or 4 games into a two year 8.5 million dollar contract.

(unless as you just said, you owned that team)

Why wouldn’t a team cut a kicker who can’t kick? The contract is irrelevant once the player can’t play. You don’t carry two kickers.

Because actual professional GMs don’t do that after the 3rd game of the season to a PK they just signed to a 8.5 mil deal?

I’m out. You’ve accomplished something you’ve never done before… you have me shaking my head sadly reading your posts.

They did release Siebert who was better in camp and has been the best kicker in the league this year for WASH. Surely you must agree that must've had something to do with Zuerlein's contract being guaranteed...

The money does not matter when the kicker cannot kick. You eat your losses if winning is the goal. I don’t know how you find this controversial. There’s no written rule they can’t cut him. Signing out.

Agreed. If they hadn’t just signed Zeurlein, who knows how it would’ve played out? I don’t. Don’t forget how popular Greg was with the fan base back then though…

Don’t mistake my comments here as defending Zeurlein. I’m debating the “Woody didn’t cut him because he’s cheap” thing.

Woody is a lot of things, but imo he’s not cheap.

I don't think "cheapness" is the core problem. I think it's football idiocy and sometimes that idiocy manifests itself as cheapness (making decisions based on economics and not what is best for the team). AKA "penny wise pound foolish" thinking.

Reckless, clueless, impulsive come to mind right away.
I might be wrong here, but I’ve always felt his biggest problem is he’s not very different from many of us who post here. At his core, he’s a fan.
He loves this team and he wants to win as much as we do. The only difference is he actually owns the team, can’t hire good people but he’s able to make the same rash, dumb moves we all see proposed here every day.

He's certainty a fan of the Jets as a moneymaking vehicle. Not hating, if I owned the Jets I would squeeze Jets fans out of every penny, also.

Nothing wrong with maximizing profits. I’ll never fault him for that. He’s not putting a gun to anyone’s head and taking their money.

In his own goofy, frustrating way he’s also trying to put a good product out there for the people who give him that money too.

He’s done this before.

Up and down like a roller coaster

great year, then big down year.

I don’t think it’s confidence. I think it’s the opposite. I think he has a great year and figures he’s golden and he loses the edge
