Only the Jets.

A friend of mine is a Raiders fan, yes, fans of bad teams make epic drinking buddies. Anyhow, he was telling me how it was rumored Al Davis did the same thing when he was running the Raiders. Warren Sapp alluded to it as well. So I'd not be surprised if old Woody was calling plays. Think of them as the ultimate fantasy owners. With our luck, it might not be Woody Johnson, it could be Woody Allen.

Al Davis actually was the HC of the Raiders in the early 60's.  So a headset for him would not be crazy....

I should've been more specific. The Al Davis we all knew as the crazy, crotchety Jack Klompous type was far removed from Al Davis the coach. I'd go out on a limb and say jerruh jones does the same. Dan Snyder probably did as well.

I sat in a luxury box last year and it was right next to Woody's box. I think I posted pictures of him here. But from what I saw this is a one way thing. Designed so that he can listen in, but not talk.

Him speaking would be a cluster that would be huge even by the low standards the Jets have already set.

I don't think that is the case though. I like to rag on Woody but if he wants to listen in, go for it.

You’re talking about a 77 year old child who treats the Jets like his personal toy.

He’s never worked a day in his life and has no clue how the work force operates or about structure.

With that said, he’s the reason why only a moron will work here. Any competent coach will run away from this dumpster fire of an organization as fast as possible.

Yes because we’ve asked so many HoF coaches to come coach here.

I recognize woody would have the “right” to listen in, but i question whether it is a good thing to so closely monitor your coaching staffs’ in game communications. Does the fact that they know he is listening in affect what the coaches say?

I mean ... Even though I feel like I should agree in principle, what could the coaches be afraid to say in front of their boss that would hurt team performance?

I suppose they might hold back some constructive criticism or dissent with certain choices, but at the same time the chain of command is the chain of command. They can always look back at decisions later. Doesn't seem like it hurt anything last night.

For now, although he's an idiot, I'll give Woody the benefit of the doubt that he's just evaluating Ulbrich (and the other staff's) long term future with the team.

All suspicions are confirmed, and Woody is an operational president and temporary GM of his team, the Jets.  The results speak for themselves.

Even Douglas did not wear a headset.   What owner have you ever seen wear a headset?   Owners are supposed to enjoy the games with their friends and family and get the report on Monday.

Was Douglas photographed watching the game?

If the offense can do that let him call the plays.  If Corley didn’t drop the ball they scored 4 tds.

Great insight here from Matt

I actually think this does not work.   That is what we thought we had now.

We need a guy in charge.   Payton, Harbaugh are in charge.  BB was in charge.   We need a guy in charge who can counter Woody one on one.  Otherwise when power is triangulated it’s ineffective and Woody really completely controls.

The Redskins and 49ers have a combo, but their owners are more rational.

To be fair, those guys still have GMs that handle things more on the business side. Only BB was TRULY in charge of it all.

That being said, I agree, this team need a big personality at HC who effectively runs the show and will tell Woody "it's my way, or I hit the highway". Personally, I'd be happy to keep JD if we can manage that - he's very good on the contracts, cap management, and trade side. He just needs someone to keep Woody out of decisions and help make the right choices on important players.

This.

Even Jerry Jones has enough self awareness not to put the head set on during games.

Let your people do their job.

Of course, Woody has never had a real job so he doesn't understand how counter-productive a management move this is.
