A note about the last wild card spot (#7 seed)

I respect the optimism, and I honestly feel the AFC is weaker than it's been in a while. The jets don't have a super easy schedule on the way out, but 6-2 the rest of the way doesn't feel impossible either.

My main fear is the 3 divisional games to end the year. The phins have had our number in recent years and run the ball SO well - and now the Bills do too. To be honest, I'm not convinced the jets will do it, but it's reassuring that there's a small margin for error.

We could really use an implosion in Denver. They do have the chiefs twice, ravens, and several other tough matchups.

I'm not convinced, either. I said 7-10 a week ago. I might amend that to 8-9 after last night, but I still predict a losing record and no playoffs. But, as you say, 6-2 down the stretch is not impossible. And I totally agree about Miami. I'm afraid their running game will destroy us.

The conventional wisdom seems to be that you will need 10 wins to get into the playoffs.

It should be noted that, since the NFL expanded the playoffs to 7 teams in each conference in 2021, 5 of the 6 #7 seeds have been 9 win teams

The Jets get killed by losing tiebreakers to Denver and Pitt, but also have an opportunity to earn tie-breakers over teams like Indy and Jacksonville. Also, don't look now, but Houston is not a lock to win the AFC South - they still have games with the Lions, Ravens, Chiefs, and Cowboys and are pretty beat up.

I want the team to get to .500 before I plant a mirage in my head of the Jets in the playoffs.  But thanks for the update.

What'll be the most crushing is if they finish with 7 or 8 wins, the temptation will last all offseason to put 4 losses purely on Zuerlein and say they shoulda-woulda-coulda won 11-12 games as though this sloppy team would still prepare/enter every one of the remaining games exactly the same (and so would our opponents).

I'm probably in the minority but I think Woody blows the whole thing up if no playoffs

We need more Thursday night games. Rodgers gets pumped up knowing he can drink tequila all weekend after a Thursday night game ha.

I feel confident the Jets will pretend to be in contention for a wild card spot just to ensure ruining of the draft pick before still ending with a losing record and an early vacation.

Then we can all ask if maybe the Jets are really just one step away and simply need to quadruple down on the continually failing effort. Should be exciting!

the crazy thing about that Bills game Week 17 is the Bills might have the AFC East so locked up by that point (but 1 seed out of reach) they might not even care about the outcome

And the Jets would still lose.

pittsburgh has a good chance to win the afc north with the ravens being the wild card.  i'm thinking the bills will go into their seasonal swoon and drop a few more before it's all over.  if they stay focused on the game they play the jets have a good chance to win 10 or even 11.

If they’re serious about Super Bowl, go run the table

NE didn’t get in one year at 11-5 under Cassel I think — maybe it was 10-6 don’t remember exactly

IIRC 2008, they lost a tiebreak and missed the playoffs at 11-5(that was the Wildcat year with the Dolphins and Chad).

that was before the 7th seed/17 game schedule though. If the Jets get to 10 they’ll get in.

Edit: I can't help but feel like the blown pats and broncos games will be what ultimately killed this team. If they even get that close.

my fear is the same as its been......we are short a coach. and you can see it. we came out bad again. being HC and DC is just too much for one man. i wish we could bring someone in to help out but anyone on the street now probably isnt good and cant offer us much.

Sorry. Based on what I have witnessed from this current Jet team- it makes no difference whether or not they somehow make a run to 9 or 10 wins. They have zero shot of beating a good team in January. They lost to a pathetic patriots team for god sake. Yeah- end the drought to stop being the butt of everyone’s jokes, that would be good and would certainly welcome it. However, this team is not capable of beating the top dogs of the league- so….. not sure it matters

Fact remains three losses ARE squarely on DeadLeg Greg.
