Downing appreciation thread

Recommended Posts

I suggested this change mid season last year

Not that I thought it would reap major benefits but it was such an obvious thing to try considering Downing already had playcalling experience

But Puss Saleh was too chicken sh-t to try anything

His biggest priority was not hurting feelings

Coach Brick accomplished more in 1 day than Saleh had in his previous 365

He had the stones to name Downing and try and save the offense

The crazy thing about this is that Saleh had decided to make this move on the morning he was fired.

If Woody hadn't interfered this would have happened. I am not defending Saleh here, but letting the head coach go during the season causes a massive disruption in the operations of a team and it takes a while for all to adjust. I think we have seen this with the Jets and especially with Ulbrich.

I think had Woody allowed Saleh to move forward with Downing and left Ulbrich to coach the defense we would not be in the position we are in now. The time to remove a head coach is either in the offseason when you have time to prepare and adjust, or when a coach has lost the lockerroom which Saleh hadn't.

I agree with the move just not the timing and it may have cost us the season. Time will tell.

Well here we are a couple weeks in and downing has our offense capable of putting 4 TDS a game , potentially 3 a half. All with terrible like play and injuries making back ups who have never played the position block for AR-15.

I think his resume speaks for itself and again he has adjusted his offensive play calling to the talent he has. It's pretty much the best coaching we have seen on the jets other than Brick in a long time.

He did this in the other places he coached as we covered extensively. Those performances were attacked by the SOJFs because he ran the ball slot when thats all he had. Anyway

Special teams coach still stinks...line still sucks but it is nice to see the offense wake up in second half. We already saw huge improvement on the scripted plays. Now we need to see an entire game called well. Guys have had a chance to adjust to the new coaching regime and sure it could be too late already, but at least they seem to be finally figuring it out.

I mean it this is the best playcaller we have had in quite a while. Had he had the reigns in the off season we def beat the broncos, pats the second time etc etc. we have like 2 losses.  But we are where we are.

Thank you Downing for not sucking so much like hackett. He probably middle of the pack OC and you see what that has resulted in

Great start to running the table.

4 TDs a game? We scored 21. In fact none of the games we’ve had 4 TDs. 9TDs in the 4 games. Appreciation for what? Our highest score is 22 with all that fire power. Honestly, I don’t have time to appreciate average production.

It’s impressive in that he found out on a Tuesday that he was calling plays the following Sunday.  No offseason. He needed to change the offense enough to improve it without over complicating things on short notice. Needed to balance what Rodgers likes to do with new wrinkles. Needed to add a starting WR into the mix

I like the outside stuff with hall and the motion.

I like throwing early to set up the run. First play Thursday night could have been a 70 yard TD on play call. Wasn’t executed well. He didn’t turtle and call 2 runs.

I expect the operation to benefit from time off. They will have a lot of time off to get ready for December.

They scored 4 TDs against Houston.  Corley just took one off the board.

You can clearly see the past few weeks that player execution has been the main issue on offense, not play calling.

Seeing the offense operate with a modicum of success and creativity almost makes me wish Woody could fire coach Bobby a 2nd time 😂🤣

We would be at least 5-4 right now if Downing had been the OC all year

Did he kick those fgs?  I think it’s possible downing would have called better plays for the team to execute so maybe those fgs wouldn’t have been needed.  But the players still have to execute and we’ve seen two games where Williams ran the wrong route or lined up in the wrong position.  And then we saw bates whiff on numerous blocks.

we would be 5-4 if Greg the leg still had a leg.

He should have called a completion there for sure

But he didn’t call that play.

The Jets problem has been execution all year. So singing the praises of Downing seems like a failure to understand what is going on.

The failure here is confusing execution and play call lol

Nonsense!  Saleh was perfectly willing to try new slogans.
