Playoff Picture: The Loss to Denver

Recommended Posts

There are (at least) 2 ways to look at this, and while #1 hurts, I’m sort of inclined to believe #2 right now:

1) We’d be 7th seed right now (tiebreaker over Broncos) if only Hackett didn’t suck, if the pass D didn’t bust at the worst possible time, or if we’d made a kick, etc.

2) it’s a blessing in disguise because the loss to Denver precipitated Woodrow putting coach Bobby on the hot seat, and we’re better off with the combo of Ulbrich / Downing than Bob / Hack so better to rip the band aid off sooner than later because the worst scenario big picture would have been to keep Saleh around long-term

We are a long way from thinking about a wildcard.  Winning two games in a row would a major accomplishment at this point.

Seriously. Pump the brakes. The win vs. Houston was a gift. If Diggs and Collins are playing we lose. If their OC keeps giving the ball to Mixon we lose.

That game felt more like a Vegas-motivated outcome than anything else.

This is assumption is wrong since Bobby was going to replace Hackett with Downing the following week anyway.

We would have been better off with just a new OC and allowing Ulbrich to focus on the Defense.

Saleh put this out via his media contacts after he was canned.

I don’t buy it for a second.

The supposed theory at the time was he was canned because Rodgers wouldn’t abide a Hackett demotion.

That’s clearly been debunked.

Believe what you want to believe, but the fact is:  Saleh was asked point blank the day before whether he was even “considering” a change to the offensive playcaller and he said “no” (with zero hesitation).

I mean go back and watch the press conference for yourself if you don’t believe it.

it's pretty simple.  the jets need to not look back and focus on the team they play each week.  the only way they get into the playoffs is if they take care of business and play up to the potential of the players.  one big issue are turnovers.  the jets have currently lost 10 and won 7.  not good and part of the reason they're 3-6.

Assuming Saleh was going to dump Hackett when he said he wasn’t going to make the change is a stretch

What do you mean by this exactly

The league told Slowik to stop calling effective running plays? 🤣

I mean if anything the refs were biased in favor of the Texans.

The ref sees hobbled Rodgers running for a big first down on 3rd and long and starts thinking to himself he can’t let that happen so he calls a crock of sh-t hold on Olu.

Only Jets fans can talk playoffs after beating a wounded team and with a 3-6 record.

I mean it’s a fact they’d be in 7th seed position if they’d beaten Denver.

It’s ridiculous but it is what it is.

Other than KC and BAL, the AFC sucks.

Who was that?  The team we just beat came in as a 6-2, division leading team.
Not 3-6

I don’t think the influence of Vegas is that simple.

I actually do think the NFL is sort of soft-rigged in favor of certain things:

obviously they wanted the Chiefs in the Super Bowl because of Taylor Swift

I was just wondering if there was something you saw on the field Thursday that would indicate the league wanted the Jets to beat the Texans

I mean if it’s true about Vegas, there has to be some evidence, even if it’s just one questionable call

Like if you had told me the Vikings Rams game was rigged in favor of Rams, that’s not hard to believe because the face mask non-call was one of the most ridiculous things you will ever see

You mean like on that Garret Wilson catch, when video review overturned a call on the field and made it a touchdown when there was no clear evidence that his “shin” hit inbounds before his knee hit out of bounds?

Don’t think we can complain about biased officiating in this one.

I feel so strongly that the Jets will get to 5 and 6, this way all of these conversations start ramping up. Because that is what the Jets do to us.

5 and 6 wild card spot or draft spot? Lol

If we can get the next two wins going into the bye then we have a real shot.

While I think 9-8 gets a team into that 7th spot…I think mentally the team would be much more likely to start quitting on the season if we lose against Arizona or Indy.

I thought it was a clear and obvious error -- the shin / ankle touched the grass inbounds first.

Debunked by the fact that Ulbrich demoted Hackett within 2 days of getting of the job.

Saleh wasn't fired because he threatened to demote Hackett.

He was fired because he sucks at being an NFL head coach.

He was never going to demote Hackett.  It's some BS he fed to Hughes and media mouthpieces like Jordan Schultz after the fact, who ran with it.

I think the last point is spot on.   The team needs to win both of those games - otherwise it's a lost season - watch rodgers get an "injury" etc.

now, if we win the next 3 games and 6-6?   i think they have a good chance to make the playoffs.

Agreed. But turnovers happen. They had zero TO against the Texas and forced one. With Rodgers I'm not that concerned about INTs despite how many he's thrown so far.

The one issue the Jets still have is that they cannot stop the run. Plain and simple. In the win against the Texans, they gave up 187 rush yards. Mixon had over 100 yards. This has been the same story all year for the Jets. You simply will not win games consistently that way. I don't care who you are playing. If the Jets don't figure out a way to stop opposing teams from running the ball down their throats, they can forget about the playoffs. And it starts with the upcoming game in Arizona.

Arizona will beat us badly. We won’t be able to stop them running. And they will punish Rodgers.

Kyler is going to set his single game rushing record. If Brissett can run all over this D, then Kyler is going to go pinball.

Garret Wilson had two circus level catches in that game. That’s not happening every week either.

Top of his foot clearly touched before the knee — so if the top of the foot is considered shin, then I agree with you. But I’ve literally never seen that call before in the NFL, and while it may have been the right call, it was very close and I think we got some generous treatment from the replay officials on that one (it easily could have gone the other way — and I think most people looking at it expected that it would). Just saying, I don’t think we can complain about the officiating in that game.

LOL...they are going to get SLAUGHTERED in Arizona next week and at 3-7 we will finally be able to squash this ridiculous playoff talk.

That Arizona team is really really good, I watched them absolutely fillet the Bears into little Bear cutlets with their running game and their defense, our 2 weaknesses. Be prepared for many DPI calls on bust #1, and tons of gaping runs through the sieve of a DL.
