NY Post: Jets Employees Asking if Woody Johnson is Going Back to the UK

NY Jets NY Jets

With Donald Trump’s recent presidential victory, speculation has arisen regarding New York Jets owner Woody Johnson’s potential return to the United Kingdom as U.S. Ambassador. During Trump’s first term, Johnson served as the U.S. Ambassador to the UK from 2017 to 2021, entrusting the Jets’ operations to his brother, Christopher Johnson. It will be interesting to see what online betting UK has to say about the NY Jets chances if Woody leaves. Last time he went overseas the team struggled, with records of 5-11, 4-12, 7-9, and 2-14.

The New York Post reports that Jets employees are questioning whether Woody Johnson will reprise his ambassadorial role under the new administration. While no official announcements have been made, the possibility remains, especially given Johnson’s previous tenure and close ties to President Trump.

If Johnson were to accept the ambassadorship again, it would likely impact the Jets’ leadership structure. Christopher Johnson previously managed the team’s affairs during Woody’s absence, a period marked by significant challenges, including coaching changes and underwhelming performance. Fans and analysts are concerned about a potential repeat of this instability.

Hiring a true head of football operations seems like it would be a good idea. As the situation develops, the Jets’ community remains attentive to any official statements regarding Woody Johnson’s future roles. His decision could significantly influence the team’s direction and stability in the coming years.

Some good, or bad news, depending on how you look at the situation:

Last time, Johnson was not appointed by Trump until June 2017.

That means if it is a similar timeline, Johnson will be here to oversee the Jets’ coaching hire in January, as well as the decision on whether to retain general manager Joe Douglas.

Johnson could also set the budget and the direction for the team entering the 2025 season.

Going to say this again, just so everyone understands:

Woody Johnson was always in charge of the Jets.

Christopher Johnson was just his on the ground surrogate while he was living in the UK.

You guys watch the movie with The Rock and Marky Mark were they played two idiot bodybuilders who did murders? In the movie they kidnapped a rich guy who owned a Subway.  He was a d ck to all his employees so much that the employees preferred The Rock and Marky Mark even though they were criminals

It is amazing:

1) Most jets fans think Woody hasn’t been the GM since the Tebow trade

2) that Woody still wasn’t shadow GM’ing from England even though phones and the internet exist

but the UK is so far away.  how did they stay in touch?  the telegrams would not reach him in time to make decisions in time.

always a dumb narrative, ambassadors do nothing

In instances when WiFi was spotty and Zoom calls would drop, Woody always had the transatlantic cable to fall back on.

Wouldn't be surprised if he does Ireland this time around.

Interesting. Goodell has suggested that Ireland will be getting an NFL game in the next couple of years - Steelers would be favourites cos of the Rooneys. Though if the Jets do get sent to Ireland, it should be played in a suitable stadium.

I'm thinking Gortakeegan.

UK?

He let an us diplomats wife literally get away with murder of a UK citizen last time

probably minister of suck

She drove on the wrong side of the road, presumably carelessness not intentional murder, and was also probably a spy of some type.  The courts there would have strung her up.    She is living her own hell.

biden should have bought the family out to keep them quiet.   I am not justifying or making an excuse for what happened, but I can why the US government decided to get her out and deal with her here.

I don't really care what he does. I favor country over team which means he stays here. But I don't blame him for this season's decline. I give him credit when he saw things were going south he took action on his own. It hasn't worked out but it cost money and at least he tried. On the other hand it will be even harder for him to hire good help. He's been trashed by Belichick and his own GM had a cryptic comment. Woody will find somebody probably another sycophant like him.
