What position should the Jets target in the 1st round of the upcoming draft?

Recommended Posts

Obviously a lot will depend on who is available but, from a high level perspective, what position should we target?

A QB is always the most important but I don't think it would be fair to stick a young kid in a situation like this one.

OT is still an absolute necessity and would be a good use of resources, imo.

But most of all, I'd love to see us trade our #1 for picks in future drafts.  Then try to completely bottom out next year and then rebuild the team in 2026.

I don't think the team tries to bottom out next year or even in 2026. From the team's perspective, there's a lot of potential in the roster for the next year or two. Several of the key players are on rookie contracts. Adams is under contract through 2027. The team probably wants to see what Fashanu and Corley have to add. The team has too much cap hell to wade through over the next two years to blow out FA. The only real option here is build through the draft and if the team has a high draft spot, they're in a good position to do that.

In that framework, QB is a big question. If Rodgers comes back, there's no chance they don't start him. If Travis looks like a presumptive heir, flesh out the still broken OL. If Travis is a question mark at all, let the new regime draft their QB. If Rodgers returns, let both sit. If he leaves, open competition with Taylor.

If the team is going to have any opportunity to land a GM and HC that aren't total trash, assurances will have to be made that they will get to build their own roster after Rodgers and that definitely means picking a QB if they want one in this draft.

I want Cam Ward.  Which means the giants will get him

Giants always manage to finish worst than the jets to pick ahead of us. Considering how bad the jets have been under Joe Douglas, that is quite an achievement for them.

At least it would mean they’re trading that soft, never-picked-up-a-weight b*tch Sauce, right???

OL is super weak in the upcoming draft. You have 2 QB’s, Cam Ward and Deion’s kid, who I would pass on. Ward will go at #1 as the Giants will trade up to get him if they don’t fall to the #1 pick. Trade the pick. Get extra picks. We are in need of new young players. Trade trade trade, get picks picks picks.

Hello darkness, my old friend

1 game out from #1 overall pick

Just wanted to point out that before drafting him, Trevor Lawrence said that football was not all that important to him. He is a loser and the Jaguars are in shambles again. Teams need to REALLY look hard at Daniels and Stroud, neither of whom were widely heralded as the top QB in the draft, but instantly looked like franchise guys (Lawrence most definitely did NOT, Caleb looks iffy, Young already benched) and place more importance on those traits in evaluations than they currently do.  My guess is that it is something in their personalities and drive for the game that separates them.

I like the idea of trading players for picks and trading back, rebuild incoming in 2026. I could care less about the current roster or staff (JD you suck). Assembling a solid number of picks and freeing up cap space will help entice a decent GM to take a chance. We need professionals, badly, and a new culture, but that’s another rant.

In addition, at least we can relax next year with zero expectations on team performance- a really nice side benefit, no delusions.

Remember when I said, “If the plan was to use our 1st rounder on a backup who starts in the future, then it should have been a QB”? Remember how 99.9% of you were like, “oh but, Olu will start a few games this year and be good, because Tyron Smith.”

I find it remarkable that I’ve been posting on these boards for most of my adult life and most of continue to think you know better.

All of this would be more palatable if we had Nix or McCarthy developing in the background. Nix is quite literally playing better than ARod as a rookie with less weapons. I think McCarthy will be better than him.

People said that about Houston and Stroud, this is honestly the best opportunity to let a rookie sit behind a vet imo
