BigJermaineFromQnz
OK Jermaine, please, tell me what I don't know about the Mets or how I have not followed them. Tell me how I did not cry as a 10 year old in 1973 because Willy Mays was called out at th eplate and was ravaged old. Tell me how Game 7 was not the biggest dissapointment of my life to that point. Tell me how I tried to convince myself that the Seaver trade could actually work out for the Mets and that Henderson, Zachary and Flynn would become key players. Tell me how in the mid to late 70's when teh team was hoorible I listened to every single inning on a staticky WNEW just so hopefully David Kingman would get one more at bat and possibly hit a homerun. That is all we had. Tell me how in my high school Science class, as a Junior and hearing that the Mets took Darryl Strawberry with their first pick and telling myself-"That is a name I need to remember" and feeling good about my team again and again. Tell me how I did not stand at the Brewery in State College on an October Saturday and called for a "wild pitch" in Game 6 of the '86 World Series, and have practically the whole bar hugging me, and the band telling everyone "Ken is the happiest man we know". I can go on and on. Yeah Jermaine, tell me how I am not a Met fan. And I will tell you that you are not a man. PERIOD haha ok ok... sorry... I was just playing around, trying to rile you up. nice post though btw.

toon88
Some jewels are untouchable and those are pitching jewels. Kazmir should never have been traded-I have never understood that. Don't deal pitching, and always make sure that you get some kind of pitching back in any trade you do. Even low level. 5 tool outfielders untouchable? Eh, they can be had in the right trade couldn't agree more...the Kazmir trade is right along side the Seaver trade & Dykstra/McDowell for Samuel trade to me. While I can't say Miledge won't be a superstar, I've heard enough of the Mets having a "5 tool player" on the way...Alex Escobar, Alex Ochoa ring a bell? If the Mets can get a young, #1 pitcher for Miledge or Miledge +, I'd do it.
BigJermaineFromQnz
Because even if we decide to move Milledge, there is no way we can do it for Zito when Dontrelle is being offered. Dontrelle >>>> Zito, and the Marlins dont look too scared to get rid of him. That is the only move I could find acceptable involving Milledge. BigJermaineFromQnz
Personally, I'd take Zito over Willis. that's retarded... Willis is only like 23 years old and has better stuff. Besides which, I see Willis having a lot more success in new york than Zito

toon88
If I had to chose I'd rather have Dontrelle. He is 24, Zito is 28. Dontrelle is just now coming into his prime. Zito is a laid back, west coast guy who may not adjust to NY well, like many others that have tried. With his personality, Dontrelle IMO, would have no problem pitching in NY. In a year or 2 he'd take over for Pedro as ace of the staff. All that being said, I think it would take more than Miledge to get Dontrelle. There will be plenty of teams, Angels, Red Sox, Dodgers to name a few, looking to get him, so the price will be high. He is signed for another 3 years I think, so the ball is in the Marlins court. They can hold out for the package they want.
Bugg
Willis walked the ballpark during the World thingie. He wasn't exactly lights out in 2003 either. Yes, he has some nice stats, but tell me the big game he's ever had in a big game. Plus, Zito moves from the American to the National and that means he would be facing 2 less batters for most of the game. Truth be told, don't think I'd trade Pelfrey or Milledge for either. Why not see what Pelfrey can do?
BigJermaineFromQnz
I went to the game last night, first time I was in that place since I was about 10 years old... and I was really struck by how tiny it is. The outfield is really very tiny, talk about a hitters ballpark... Ortiz was right yesterday when they asked about his success there and he said "It's easy, it's only 310 to right field..." Another thought... How grimy is Steinbrenner... seriously, could this guy be any more of a dirtbag? first he "promises" a world series... This idiot isnt playing... he should shut his fat mouth and just let the press know that he is "confident" they will do well. then this ******* starts televising BP, "Yankees BP Extra!" which is beyond rediculous, and really starts to violate a player's privacy... then, last night he specifically calls out A-Rod in front of the press... He is the one paying this guy, you would think he would support him and want the best for him? The guy is only hurting himself and doing that was unbelievably childish... He of all people should know A-Rod is a sensitive cat and doesnt really respond that well to criticsm... what a slimeball...
Scott Dierking
The lines are relatively short, and right field is a porch (that has always been the charm), but the gaps are legitimate tpo deep. Center is fairly deep also, by today's standards. It is not the 480-490 it originally was, but the gaps are not cheap.

He of all people should know A-Rod is a sensitive cat and doesnt really respond that well to criticsm... what a slimeball... If you look straight down the lines then it is a hitters ballpark, but in the gaps it's one of the toughest ballparks in baseball to hit the ball out of. 399 to left center. Not many parks rival that which is the reason why A-Rod is the first righty to hit 50 HRs there since Dimaggio. 385 to right center is a bit easier but by no means is it a gimme. If you just want to look at a ballpark for what it has to offer straight down the lines then I think Fenway would have to be the best hitters park...lots of room in the gaps and that right field line? Are you kidding me? Hitters have to climb the right field wall to make it to first base and then come back over to go for two:cheers:
Scott Dierking
Oh and Jermaine, when you had to wintness Mets baseball, as I did when Joan Payson was the owner and she passed and her daughters inherited the team and had M Donald Grant doing their bidding, and their only worry was fielding a club as cheap as she could and auctioned off all the popular players, you should admire an owner whose primary goal is winning. He has done some dumb things, he has done some bad things for the sport, but overall he wants to win. What more could a fan want?

GimmeShelter
As much as I would love to, the Mets can't use the payroll card. We have had one of teh top 3 payrolls in the NL over the past decade, and done squat except for a WS loss. The Mets are not the KC Royals or Pitt Pirates here. They enjoy advantages that 80% of teh league do not. While the Mets have done a recent good job of promoting from within and building a foundation that way, they have purchased their team along the way for most positions. True Scott but we are never 100 mill above are closest competitor.

Maxman
True Scott but we are never 100 mill above are closest competitor. How many World Series have the Yankees won since they got so out of hand payroll wise? The Yankees payroll is out of hand because: 1. George is insane 2. They had to overpay some players for winning 4 damn rings (Jeter, Posada, Williams) 3. They had to pay some players what they deserved for winning 4 damn rings (Rivera) Once these Hall Of Famers retire you will see the Yankees payroll get more in line with the rest of the leagues. Guys I am telling you...building dynasties, it has a price. Be careful.

You see it the Red Sox and you are starting to see with the Mets. With the Mets new network and the fact that they will have to pay guys like Wright, Reyes, and others in three years the Mets payroll will be right there with the Yankees and will BY FAR exceed the Red Sox.
