Green Jets & Ham
I really think the Yankees should look for a contending team that needs another pitcher ... like Philly or Cinci ... agree to pay some of Randy Johnson's contract and see if we can get a corner OF in return Philly would be perfect ... maybe we can snatch Pat Burrell or Bobby Abreu ... and Philly might believe RJ can do better in the NL with no DH {ala Clemens who was OKAY when he got older in the AL, but much better when he went to the NL} ... and both players are rumored to be on the block Another trade I would make along the same lines ... CINCI REDS ... RJ for Griffey ... Reds can use another SP and Griffey makes a ton of money, so they would actually save money in that trade if the Yanks pickup some of RJ's contract ... and Griffey is also rumored to be on the block

Sharrow
Randy Johnson was one of my favorite players before he went to the yankees. You could tell he was losing it before that happened though.
Maxman
Yankee fans. Without Randy, the Yankees don't win it all this year. Not saying they will do it with him. But without him it ain't happening.

124
Why not go after Dontrelle Willis? Why I ask, why? If we're so high on Phillips then what's the need for Duncan? He can be in that deal, as well as Thompson. I'd take a young up coming pitcher over a young and upcoming in a few years outfielder.

Why would anyone trade a Abreu type player for Randy even though I think he can turn things around this season . You don't give up the Abreus of the league for guys ready to retire. Randy will right himself but no way shape or form does he get you a star back if you look to dump him. Yanks don't have the depth in their rotation to trade him anyway. Now if you offered Wang maybe that's a different story

I said Abreu, Burrell or Griffey ... and while I admit Abreu may be shooting too high, I do think Griffey or Burrell are doable for Randy Johnson ... the money match is about right {Yanks might have to pickup part of RJ's salary, but they can afford it}, both of those teams are contenders in need of another pitcher, RJ has a better chance at decent success in the NL, and both of those players are rumored to be on the block So don't act like my post made no sense, because it did .. maybe not Abreu, but the other two are realistic

Reds are in 1st place. Griffey's going no where. The Phillies have a brand new stadium, are 4 1/2 back with almost 4 months of baseball left, and see themselves as challengers to the Mets and Braves for the NL East. WHy would they deal Burrell or Abreu? Make zero sense form their perspective, unless they want teams to walk Ryan Howard 2-4 times every game and watch their offense go in the toilet. The reality is it was fool's gold to hire a 40+ pitcher at top dollar. And there's no bailing the Yanks out, since Johnson makes top dollar, probably has a no trade and could threaten to retire rather than report. Notwithstanding the other night, the pticher the Yanks should have targeted from around game 6 of 2003 was Beckett. And now they're paying the price for this idiocy. GimmeShelter
Both the Reds and Phils are in contention so I guess I don't understand why they would look to trade a star outfielder for a struggling pitcher. The Yanks past method of operation when they are in the Phillies or Reds position has been to get that 5th starter (if needed)via a salary dump from a non contender and give up little in return. Just because a Yankee fan is unhappy with Randy doesn't mean that the trade logic of contending teams has suddenly changed. I would be very suprised to see either the Reds or Phils make that type of deal without the Yankees having to include a Melky like prospect. Who would replace Randy anyway? Barton
Getting rid of Randy would be a beautiful thing but I think Max said it right: We are gonna sink or swim in the playoffs with Randy. If he pitches great, our chances are great, if he continues to pitch like crap, we're f#cked (almost). Because if Moose and Wang can pitch well like they usually do, you can just pray that Chacon and/or Pavano if he ever returns can be good #3 starters. That being said, I'd trade Randy for Burrell or Griffey in a heartbeat right now even though Burrell K's waaay too much and is alittle overrated, but I think he could be play up to his potential if he gets a change of scenary. Jet/BosoxFan
You cant blame Ham for being so mindlessly reactionary. He is a product of the New York mentality, further exacerbated by the Yankee mentality. He thinks that the rest of the baseball world longs to play in pinstripes. He thinks all other fans profess to hate the Yankees SOLELY because they are jealous. Ham fails to see the manifest content, which is the damage that Yankeeism has done to baseball for years. So obviously, he misses out on the latent content, which is the damage the Yankees have done to themselves. In Ham's eyes, Randy Johnson is a perrenial Cy Young contender (10 years ago) and not a miserly old codger with no fastball and debilitating control problems (present) In Ham's eyes, A-rod is the best player in the game with 5 or even 6 tools at his disposal instead of a $25 million anchor around steinbrenner's neck. In Ham's eyes, the Yankees are always one huge player/salary away from a 1998 playoff run (Jason Grimsley asterisk anyone???) and a 27th title. Its not just Ham, believe you me. There are millions like him so we need not point and laugh so hard at JUST Ham. You guys can make fun all you want of this poor guy, but you all can instantaneously turn into Ham-esque yahoos when Mariano Rivera gets a save while up by 3 runs or Derek Jeter hits a 2-out single.
