For Jets, Papale `Invincible,' Calhoun Inspirational

August 6, 2006

Staff And Wire Reports Jets coach Eric Mangini wanted to try something different. To simulate a game weekend, he had the team watch an inspirational movie Friday, followed by an inspirational speech.

The movie: "Invincible," the story of former Eagles tight end Vince Papale. The speech: About working hard and staying focused, delivered by none other than UConn basketball coach Jim Calhoun.

"Jim was great. He talked about the importance of not being outworked, the importance of focusing and the importance of taking advantage of the gifts that you have," Mangini said on the Jets' website. "He has won a ton of games - two national championships and 585 games. He is an impressive guy and it was good for the players to hear what he had to say."

On Saturday, the team took a bus from its practice facility in Hempstead, N.Y., to East Rutherford, N.J. - the first time the Jets have ever held a training camp practice at Giants Stadium. They held a two-hour practice before 5,787 fans dressed in green and white and screaming the "J-E-T-S, Jets! Jets! Jets!" chant.

"Everything with this trip is exactly like a game: From the itinerary to the pregame meal to coaches meetings to the rookie and first-year player meeting. You name it," Mangini said. ... Curtis Martin's injury "looks like it could be a little more significant than it first appeared," a source told Newsday. A possible trade for the Titans' Chris Brown "remains in a holding pattern," the source said.

Gotta love it. Ill take Brown in a heartbeat.
