JonEJet
http://www.nypost.com/sports/yankees/mvp__yankees_kevin_kernan.htm Jeter leads the Yankees in average, hits (143), total bases (199), doubles (26), stolen bases (24) and is producing when the Yankees need him most; batting .369 since the All-Star break, hitting .500 with the bases loaded and .444 with runners on second and third. For all of David Ortiz's walkoff glory and home-run power, the Yankee shortstop is doing it on offense and defense. Red Sox Nation says it should be MVPapi, but for all-around excellence, Jeter is your MVP right now. Long way to go.....but jeter brings it everyday!! Matt39
The only realistic way Jeter wins the MVP this year is if he ends up hitting .400. He just doesnt have the power numbers. I guess starnger things have happened though, Gibson beat out Strawberry in 88. Guys having a phenomenal year though. Notice the Jeter overrated posts are long gone. He's overated in the post season as "clutch" but that's another thread if you are directing that at me. As good as Jete's been this year and he has been terrific, Ortiz just can't be over looked due to his power numbers. You are correct in that Jeter would have to do something off the charts to off set Ortiz's numbers. I think Manny has had a great year as well. Joe Crede of the WSOx has also been the backbone of that team. You also have to ask yourself why is Jeter more deserving than Mauer, Carlos Guillen or Crede ? Twins have had injuries, were left for dead, etc, etc.
LionelRichie
jeter is having a great year. at $18M/year this should be expected. the only reason i thought jeter was overrated was because of the $ he makes. at that salary he better produce. I would say Ortiz has it so far this year, unless he gets hurt. Jeter needs a season of like .350, 200+ hits, a slew od doubles and some triples, and still will need to get to 20 HRs just to be considered. Not saying he won't get it, but it is clearly an uphill battle at this point.
