Scott Dierking
Abreu was weighing this team down. I know that sounds odd, but he had a selfish aura around him and it was more him than team. Victorino cut off a ball headed to teh wall yesterday, made a throw to second and nailed Delgado. Abreu would ahve played the ball into a triple. I think they actually needed to break up th eatmosphere that was around South Philly the past 2 years. Move some guys, any guys, and show that we are starting over. I still expect Burrrell to get moved during the Winter. Howard and Utley, who are 2 amazing offensive forces, are the new nucleus.

MBN, you disagree with my premise, and then basically state the same premise. Abreu and his aura dragged the team down. he was perceived as "me-first" and selfish You disagree? I truly believed they could have moved Burrell instead, and would still have played the same way. They needed to move bodies out of there. And they aren't finished. Scott Dierking
MBN-Abreu is the same boat as Burrell-I agree. perceived as me first and selfish. But, they will havve a hard time trading him with that salary. Trust me, they tried. How do you think the team felt, and the players onm teh team, watching AAron Rowand go head-long face first into a fence to make a play? And then, only watch Abreu whince a shy away any time he comes within 10 feet of a fence? That would pretty much make you question "If he doesn't have to play hard, and is a supposed leader, why should I?" Abreu was approached about leading off. He would have none of it. A couple of years ago, he sat out a few of the final games of the year. You know why? He didn't want his average to sink below .300. Trust me MBN, I am a Philly season ticket holder and have watched this man play and how he interacts with he teammates and how the interacted with him. he was a pariah. They had to get rid of him and it has injected this team, along with sitting Burell more.

I guess we shall see, but I have a tough time believing all that the Philly writers wrote on Bobby. And the fans are tough as well. Why, they even boo the Mascot!! Abreu very well may have needed a change of scenario to help adjsut. I have not watched him play in NY, so I can't comment on that. In Philly, there were balls at the wall that should have been caught, he loped after balls, and stole bases in situations were he should have been anchored based on what was right for the team. Writers do not make that stuff up. I witnessed it myself.

The Bobby Abreu I have seen over the years against the Mets, and on "Game-Of-The-Week" TV was one of the top all around players in Baseball. So far, he seems to be the same player for the Yankees, albeit there is a lack of power. But all other facets of his game are there.

"Game of the Week"-Remember when that was true and that Saturday game was the highlight of your entire week. It was for me as a 12 year old. For someone who lived in the sticks, without cable, and only a local TV station that carried the Phillies on Sundays, Curt Gowdy and Joe Garagiola and Tony Kubek were like a family I never had. What a pathetic little child I was.
