We arent goin anywhere this year,,no big deal,, dont trade a decent player or draft pick so we can go 6-10 instead of 4-12..

We will have a decent draft pick next year..

Now that we have OL studs for future lets use our 1st pick in 2007 draft on best RB available.

look no further than marshawn lynch, drawing comparisons from ladanian tomlinson, should be there where we are picking.

I live near Cal and I am a HUGE Cal fan, and let me tell you, Marshawn Lynch is one of the most exciting players I have seen in college. He does have character issues though, we'll see how that pans out.

After watching JJ Arrington last year I'm a little scared of Cal RB's. But I will have to keep an eye on this kid this season.

we won't be picking high enough.

Jets will be in the Top 5 again. Maybe a QB or 2 come off the board....a big LT....then we can grab Peterson.

I LOVED the draft strategy this year, especially in the later rounds (taking leaders, high IQ guys). In 2007, we need more talent and less boy scouts. Take a chance on a guy with some "issues" in Round 2 or 3.

he has a fetish where he inserts auto parts in his anus..

he has also been found several times at the local petting zoo with pants down and a grin on his face

It's not like he pooped in a chick's closet, was befriended by Israeli mobsters, or menaced little girls with handguns in a fast food parking lot. Now if you tell me his agent/adviser is a "nightclub impresario" or a rap star who goes by a dumb name(Master Dipstick or Blue), I'll rule him out.

i live near cal along with brettw4rd and im more of a niners fan, but peterson is gunna be an incredible rb and he'd do real well if the jets, specially with d'brickashaw blocking for him. if he's not available, lynch would be great if he could get the character issues straightened out.

so we give up a 4th for Barlow,,

who doesnt think the Jets will draft or sign a free agent RB starter next year?

Dont understand this move unless they see barlow starting for the next few years...its not like we are a player away from playoff contention in 2006..

I predict we use 1st round pick on RB or sign a high profile free agent RB next year...

True. But I guess Mangini wants to have the best team possible, which is a good thing. He wants to win.

While a top RB in 2007 would be helpful we may need to use our day one picks for DL, WR, OL, TE, or even another QB.

Also, in today's NFL a solid backup RB is a must. If a fourth rounder buys us our # 2 RB for the next five years, sign me up.

This is a really good point I hadn't thought of yet. Barlow could conceivably be our #2 rb for the next 3-5 years, now he just needs to get into what Mangini is preaching.

agree except that his contract is way too much for a backup RB,,i think he is 3 mill this year, 4 mill next year and 5 mill in 2008

2006: $2.5M

2007: $3.25M

2008: $4.0M

No bonus money. It's not as much as you think, really. The cap is $102M right now. Next year it'll probably be $110M. And it'll go up again in 2008. So whether Barlow makes $3M or $4M isn't as big of a deal. We paid Blaylock, who has zero chance of being a full-time back, over $2M/yr and hardly anyone batted an eye over it.

If he turns into the starting back for 2 years, he's worth the money & the draft pick. It's not like we gave him a huge SB (rendering him uncuttable for years) or it cost us a top-60 pick. So let it go. A top-60 pick could STILL end up being Jon McGraw anyway.

There was less objection to drafting a kicker with a 2nd-round pick than there seems to be for a potential 3rd-round pick if he becomes a legit starting HB for us.

Jets will pass up on Michael Bush to draft an offensive linemen or another Safety.
