Brady Quinn

I don't know if Leon is the future or not. Thats somthing we'll have to see, but if he's not I'd much rather address that early in the draft then starting all over again with another QB.

Good point.

I think the Jets are headed in the right direction. Herm was the worst thing that happened to the franchise since Kotite. Herm set you guys back 5 years.

The problem with this team is FAR from only Chad. Look at these losses.

Patsy Game: Chad outplayed brady and played MORE then well enough to win but the D dug us a 24-0 hole.

Colts game: One stop by the D in the 2nd half wins the game. chad played great.

Jags Game: Completely dominated on both sides of the ball. They lose this game no matter who was playing QB

Browns game: chad played like crap for most of the game but still made a great throw that should've sent the game to OT. The jets win this game easily as well if the D dosn't give up 130 yards on the ground to one of the worst running games in the NFL.

If the jets had even a decent D they would have 7 wins. Then no one would be bashing chad...

I hate to agree with Peter North about anything, but I think that Brady is probably the best QB in next years draft. That said, I dont think that means he'll be the number 1 pick and if the Jets want him he might be around through the 7th or 8th pick. After all how many people thought Lienart would last till the 10th pick.

Teams should never tank games particullarly, because it can make it harder and more expensive to sign their number one picks. The more losses a team has the more the new #1 and his agent can present themselves to be the savior of the team. This is even more true if we're talking about a QB. They use this as leverage to demand a big contract and sometimes to leverage themselves out of being picked by bad teams (Eli Manning, John Elway). Then, if you do sign them, because you are so bad the pressure to play them right away is to great and you might ruin them with early problems and frustrations.

Bottom line, the Jets will be doing well to finish .500 this season. That means that at worst they'll be picking in the mid first round. That's a plenty good enough spot to get someone who can really help the team immediatly and maybe even to get the second or third highest rated QB in the draft if that's the way they want to go (which I doubt).

Patsy Game: Chad outplayed brady

Why do you continue to make stupid comments like this?

PennyBoy put ZERO points on the scoreboard through 3.5 quarters in that football game.

PennyBoy led the Jets offense to ZERO long, sustained drives in that game.

Two fluke plays got the Jets back in the game.

The real NFL QB led his team on an 80-yard, 9:00 minute drive, converting 3 crucial 3rd down passes, during crunch time.

Do you see the difference yet?

Bingo. Top-5 picks in particular are the biggest rip-off in football. They have no track record against pro-level talent & are as expensive as a top-5 player at any position. And if they do manage to become an elite player, they won't get there until typically at least their 3rd seasons. Meanwhile you've given that guy $20M or more in bonuses to learn, preventing the signing of an established superstar likely better than the draft pick will ever be.

Case in point: DRob's cap hit is almost $9M this year; other than a handfull of decent games vs bad teams in his 3.5 year career, he's been starting only b/c we had no one else & were paying him so damn much - that, and players who are drafted that high are given infinitely more opportunity to get/stay on the field than a low-priced FA or someone drafted on day-two.

The NFL doesn't give teams with top-5-ish picks more overall cap space to work with for the life of that contract. I don't want pick that high unless we know for certain we're trading down.

Win as many games as you can & take the pick you end up with.

Right, let's discount the collective wisdon of draft experts, our own front office, and all the other guys that said Clemens is good, and instead listen to some poster named after a porn star. That's brilliant. Your mother must be proud.

You mean draft experts like Marrill Hoge? The same moron who said Leinart and Young weren't worthy of 1st Round consideration? He was the same knucklehead who said Clemens was as good as Leinart and Young. There is a video of him making that comment on youtube.com and it's titled Merill Hoge is an idiot.

Whats crazy is taking a first round pick + future first round picks to trade up for a QB when you already have one. You don't need hall of fame QB's to win super bowls. Draft for defense, draft for o line, draft depth and it won't matter whos playing QB.

Yeah like the rest of the team is getting so strong why even bother with the QB position? Mangini has this defense playing lights out!

I don't think anyone is saying the QB position is any less important than it is. I don't think mortgaging the future for one guy when our D will be restructured is the answer. If we didn't have Clemens, I'd lose more sleep over it, because that covers us in theory there. To an extent. It's too big of a gamble.

And Serphynx, I don't think you're giving Clemens a fair shake. Young and Leinart are in #1 spots now. Clemens isn't in the same situation, and some guys needs more time to acclimate. How 'great' did Eli Manning look from the get go? There was no arguing the pedigree was there, but let's be fair.

That is a great plan.

It is a sound plan.

However, how long is it going to take to enact that plan? That is not going to happen over night. There is some talent on the roster. The Jets are going to have to deal with the normal attrition of every offseason.

Chad will be 31 entering next year. Short of all your top draft picks and all your FAs being money, the Patriots are still going to be favorites in the AFC East. If the Jets were serious contenders, I would understand keeping Chad around for another season or two. Jets are not. This is going down the same path as Lamont/Martin. Why spend a high pick on a player if you are going to keep an old vet that has serious limitations?

Here is what I see happening. The Jets finish 9-7. Add a few draft picks and FAs and think, we need a vet QB at the helm. We could easily be 11-5 and maybe win the East. Well gone are the Browns, Titans and Raiders from the schedule and here comes the Chargers, Bengals and Jaguars. The Jets stumble to 6-10. Add a few more draft picks and free agents. Then there thinking is we can't send a QB with no experience to guide this team. Then next thing you know, Chad's shoulder finally falls off. Ypu have a solid team with a good D, OL and depth, but you have a QB with 13 passes under his belt. Maybe he will have a magical season like Chad in 2002. Or maybe he will be Boller and sink a team that could be a contender.

Eventually, the Jets' FO needs to grow a pair like the Chargers. Right or wrong they tied their fortunes to Rivers.

Sometimes in life you have to take a risk. Quinn is a smart guy to take a risk on. He's going to be a very good quarterback in the NFL.

As for Sperm Edwards, I agree with some of what you say but not all Top 5 picks are made equal. To compare D-Rob to Brady Quinn is not a good analogy. Robertson was inconsistent in college and had it not been for the combine nobody would have cared about him. Quinn has been one of the elite college players for some time now and Charlie Weiss taught him.

That alone is probably worth 10 spaces int he draft.

They see Brady being the 199th pick and envision Quinn in the NFL.

Just say NO to brady quinn. That would set the fanchise back even more. Build this team around chad.

This is by far the most absurd comment I have ever heard.

Build this team around Chad? Are you f##king kidding me?

The guy is a loser, a 30 yr old QB with no arm who is injury prone, and you want to build the franchise around him? Holy sh^t.

Sometimes you gotta take a step back to make 3 steps forward.

We might go 5-11 next year with a new QB, but we'll be far better off in the future because of it.

With Chad, you'll get nothing but a teen draft pick and no Superbowl.

He has absolutley no potential or upside.

Has Hodge been proven wrong yet? What have Leinart and Young done in their long nfl careers thus far?

Clemens hasnt even started a game yet. You can call Hodge an idiot in 5 years if he's wrong.

The guys on this site seem to have something against good quarterbacks. All off-season long I heard them rave about scrubs like Pat Ramsey and Kellen Clemens. Meanwhile Chad Pennington, Leinart, Young , Cutler and Brady Quinn were all going to be busts who have no chance in the NFL.

If Chad is so good why did you want Leinart this past April and now want the Jets to lose-out and get Brady Quinn?

And dont talk outa your ass. I wanted the Jets to grab Jay Cutler badly.

I'll take Quinn on my team, but not trading up for him, or wanting to lose out.

Brady is a winner though...Quinn is not.

4 years starting QB = 0 Championships. ND isn't winning this year so yes you can put that year #4 in there for all that hype.

So I guess that means Danny Wuerfel and Josh Heupel are better than Brady Quinn. You guys spend all off-season long bashing Vince Young, a guy who won 2 Rose Bowls by the time he was a junior in college, but then knock Quinn for not winning any national champioships. Nice to see the consistency.

How many national championships did Peyton Manning and Tom Brady win?

You cant say that a college QB who won an NC will automatically make it in the league.

Craig Krenzel won one in 2002, and Ken Dorsey won his in 2001, and neither one has burned up the league. It just isnt probative of how they will do in the NFL.

Ditto ^,Replace 28 with another 28 works for me and the kid runs down hill on every down gotta love that.

I think Peterson and Calvin Johnson are both terrific but if the Jets had the number 1 pick they would be crazy to pass up on Quinn.

Unfortunately it's a non-issue because as long as Pennington stays on the field this team is going to go 8-8. If Pennington gets hurt in the next two games and the Jets have to start Ramsey or Clemens, then 4-12 is a possibility.

This is so dumb. Sure lets tank to get a rookie QB that has yet to prove himself in the NFL when we already have one:rolleyes: . Maybe he'll be great, maybe he won't. We already have an unproven QB with talent, why draft another before we see what he's got? Its not like Clemens was terrible in college and we only took him cause Jaws and Hodge said he's good. The injury his senior season hurt his stock.

He's a top 5 prospect but is in no way worth losing all our games for or the #1 pick. Calvin Johnson and Adrian Peterson are hands down better prospects at their positions. If we had the #1 pick it'd be one of those 2 without question. I wouldn't root for us to lose out but if we had to than it'd be worth it for CJ and maybe AP but thats it. Brian Brohm is right there with Brady Quinn as a prospect and you could make the arguement either way.

I actually think both Quinn and Clemens will be good. What do you hate about Clemens so much I'm curious? You don't have to be a 1st round pick to be a good QB.

BTW, as dumb as Hodge sounds sometimes he was right about Mike Williams and he gets it right sometimes.

Your LSU bias and hatred of Vince Young is now approaching epidemic proportions.

He has started 4 friggn' NFL games.

How did Troy Aikman and Peyton Manning do in their first seasons?

Troll's read on Vince Young is pretty spot on today - 5-15 for 35 yards and 2 picks and it's only the 2nd quarter.

And Troll would have said Troy Aikman and Peyton Manning suck after their rookie seasons.

He's still trying to convince everyone Michael Vick sucks. Some people are just not man enough to ever admit they're wrong about anything.

Just look at that his thread about Mario Williams. He killed Mario Williams before the draft and now he's all over his jockstrap.
