GimmeShelter
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Padres were quick to pull the trigger on the Josh Barfield trade because they believed that Kevin Kouzmanoff was on the verge of going from the Indians to the Yankees in a Gary Sheffield deal. That'd be pretty interesting if true. Not only did they get a player they wanted in Barfield, but they could have stayed alive in the Sheffield talks by making the move. Kouzmanoff might have had a chance to compete for the starting job at first base in New York. Source: San Diego Union-Tribune
madmike1
Kouzmanoff is a stud too bad that didn't get done. They will still get value for sheffield.
DireJet38
Indians should've never dealt Belliard.
madmike1
Indians should've never dealt Belliard. Why not? If they wanted him so bad they could sign him right now as a FA. Getting something for a FA to be is always a good idea.

I thought he was a good fit in Cleveland, good combo with peralta at shortstop...they turned a sweet double play. He was axed by cirucumstance, the Indians were horrendous this year, I couldn't beleive it, I thought they were going to be in the Tigers position. The Troll
Surprised to the Padres part ways with Barfield. I thought he was pretty damn solid for a rookie. Would have liked to see the Cubs get in on that if he was available. Oh well, like Hendry would ever trade for a player with a future.

He looked great down the stretch.
The Troll
Is Ryan Theriot a player or no? He looked great down the stretch. Don't know. To me, one month is not enough to learn a whole lot about a player, so I'm not counting on Theriot at all.
GimmeShelter
Tigers - Yanks talking Sheffield. http://www.mlive.com/tigers/stories/index.ssf?/base/sports-2/116312101182610.xml&coll=1 Also: According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Yankees turned down a chance to trade Gary Sheffield for Scott Linebrink. It's unclear whether they have a chance to do the deal straight up. There was a three-way proposal sending Sheffield and cash to Cleveland, Kevin Kouzmanoff to San Diego and Linebrink to New York. There must be some other team out there willing to give up quite a bit if the Yankees didn't jump on that. Even if they aren't particularly high on Linebrink, they could have moved him elsewhere for something that better fit their needs. There are plenty of clubs out there that would like to have Linebrink working in the eighth or ninth inning. Source: FOXSports.com
124
In The Star Ledger this morning there was a little piece of Sheffield close to landing in Detroit for starting or relief pitching and that talks continue to heat up and make good progress.
