2004 Scouting Report - Football Scouts Inc.

Name: Doug Jolley

Position: Tight End

Grade: 69

Alert: None

Comment:

Jolley possesses good athletic ability, shows good initial quickness and generally gets a clean release. Runs sharp routes and does a nice job of finding the soft spot in zone coverage. Has a great feel for the passing game and will adjust his routes to exploit the weaknesses of a defense. As a run blocker, plays with great intensity, works to sustain his blocks and does a good job of keeping the defender in front of his face. Plays with good leverage, takes adequate angles to his blocks and keeps his legs pumping after initial contact. However, Jolley was demoted toward the end of last season and will have to improve his overall consistency before he is ready to step back into a starter's role. Is a former college quarterback and lacks great power. Doesn't show the ability to consistently adjust to the moving target and will have some trouble sealing off athletic linebackers on the second level. While he needs to add weight, he has had problems bulking up in the past and will never be a dominant run blocker. Also disappeared down the stretch last season and needs to regain his focus.

A little old but take what you can get

All we can hope for on this one is that Heime had a big say in the deal and believes he can turn Jolley around.

Interested in seeing if we do anything trade wise with our two 2nd rounders.

Tough pill to swallow but for now I'll just hope that our new OC saw something the rest of us did not.
