Latinlawyer
It appears Tom Hicks has done it again. The latest rumor out of Japan is that Texas has won the bidding and will begin negotiations with Boras on Saturday. Honestly, good luck to the kid. Maybe the Rangers will finally focus on pitching!!!!! LL Damn, I thought the Mets might get him.
faba
This official decision should come out any time now-I hesitate to pay that type of money just to negotiate with Boras.
124
Wow. This surprises me. I thought if he weren't going to sign with the Yankees who already have Matsui & Wang that he'd end up in Seattle where they have Joigma (or whatever it is) & Ichiro and Seattle being on the WC having a higher rate of Japanese over there. There is nothing concrete about this. I've heard and read rumors of every team in the bidding, winning this thing. Even if the Rangers win it, which I doubt, Mats and Boras probably will tell them he wont sign, so the Rangers either trade him to a team he wants to go to (Yankees) or they dont sign him at all, and he heads back to Japan for another season. Then after that he becomes a FA and heads to America without a bidding frenzy, he'd get to choose where he goes (Yankees).

Maxman
I am told by my various connections that the Yankees, not the Rangers, have won this bid. They have already talked to Boras and have the framework in place for a 3 year deal. Boras is so confident he wants this kid to be a free agent again when he is 29 years old. Please cite your rumors about every team winning...because honestly, you are once again proving that you know little about baseball machinations... 1) The winning team cannot trade away the rights to a posted player. 2) Boras will not allow his client to not sign an MLB contract this year because that will show weakness. 3) Get off the Yank bandwagon for a sec. Think Tom Hicks and you will see this could be possible. So if Matsu doesnt go to the yanks... is your season over? no. LL

Cant talk to Boras until MLB has confirmed the winning bid and that begins the 30 day negotiations period. MLB wants to announce this and any back room deals are prohibited. madmike1
Star ledger While the Yankees and all of baseball wait to find out who won the right to negotiate with Japanese right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka, media reports out of Japan said the Seibu Lions were disappointed with the amount of the highest bid in the "posting" process and would need more time before deciding whether to accept it. Barton
Like I said, LL, every team rumored in this thing has been said to win it. Yesterday, it was the "Yankees may have won with a 27mill bid", then I read the Dbacks of all teams, won, with some japanese link. Today, its the rangers. And now its the red sox may have won with a "Bid of 38-45 million" http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2656687 The RED SOX putting down 40mill ?? Buster Olney is getting taken, no way his source is correct. 40 mill my aZZ.
uart
FROM ESPN.COM: "The Boston Red Sox may have posted the top bid for the right to negotiate with Japanese right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reported, citing Major League Baseball sources. There has been no official announcement, and the Seibu Lions, Matsuzaka's team in Japan, have until Tuesday to accept or reject the high bid. But Olney is reporting that the Red Sox may have posted the top bid with a figure between $38 million and $45 million, according to Major League Baseball officials who are monitoring the bidding. Matsuzaka, who pitched for Japan's World Baseball Classic champions, is considered among the top prospects available this offseason. If the Lions accept the top bid -- and according to the rules of the process, the team making the high bid is not disclosed to the Japanese team -- the winning bidder has 30 days to reach an agreement with Matsuzaka. If a deal cannot be reached, he would return to the Lions for the 2007 season and become a free agent in the spring of 2008."
Barton
I have read 5 different "may haves" from every top team in this bidding. No effing way the Sox bid 40 million on this guy. No f'n way. But if they did, I dont want to see that whining bullcrap from red sox fans that they cant compete with the Yankees spending. Buster Olney reported a new "may have", so its gotta be true. Bah, I dont buy it for a second.
uart
Its possible that the Red Sox, knowing that the Yankees were bidding, decided to bid 40million in an attempt to block any Yankee bid. If Boston bid over 20 million, then don't expect them to sign Matsu -- they'll "fail to reach an agreement" and get their money back. Matsu will stay in Japan. IF that's even true. They made it clear to the teams that Matsuzaka wouldn't want to play for that there were certain places he didn't want to go. Which is part of the reason so many teams dropped out, including Seattle. They aren't going to bid on a guy who doesn't want to play for them. If Texas wins the bid, they'll sign him and he'll play for the Rangers.
