selection7
The Bears are beatable for sure. Especially if you are an AFC team with little to no playoff tiebreaker importance and you can get 6 turnovers against us in one game (like Miami did). But I still see some people on this board shrugging off the Bears as just another team with a good record. So anyone want to guess what the Bears' record is in the last 20 regular season games (excluding last year's Week17 where the starters were held out)? Too late, I'll tell you. 18-2. That's not a typo. So know this, IF the Jets beat the Bears next Sunday it will be a big deal, because almost no other team has been able to in the last year and a half...despite "knowing" who they thought we were or "knowing" that the key is to put pressure on Rex Grossman. On a less inflammatory note, the Bears are wondering about their run defense now that it's gone from being great to allowing 3 straight 100 yard rushers (a streak that literally started the game after the Bears' pro bowl safety Mike Brown was put on IR). Also, if the Jets can get pressure on Rex (you never know), is he capable of not making stupid, "what was I thinking?"-style turnovers. Which Thomas Jones will show up next Sunday. That's a bit of a summary of what Bears fans worry about. zxc
Boozer76
Great post. The Bears have obviously played well over that 20 game span. I think the biggest issue of why they haven't had as much respect as the Colts is the fact that everyone almost expects Grossman to screw up. Most people, including Bears fans I'd imagine, are not ready to proclaim that Rex is as good as he has been at times this year. That's completely expected when the guy has had 6 turnovers in a game this year-twice. I'll say this-if Rex is on I think the Bears are just about unbeatable. If he isn't, just about any team inthe NFL has a chance to beat them.
shawn306
The Bears are getting their props and well they should. I think alot of the Bears SB hopes rest on Grossman. When he is good he is really good. When he is bad he is really bad. The bad Grossman has only really shown up twice. Against Arizona which they won and the DIRTY STINKIN F'N FISH which they lost. The key for the Jets to be competitve is for the Jets to pressure Grossman into making mistakes. Blitzes, Fronts he may never have seen before and punish the Bears O. If they can force 3 turnovers the Jets will have a chance.
vinnys025
My thinking is, if the Jets D can confuse the hell out of Brady like they did last sunday, then Grossman is in for one heck of a day. Your defense will keep you in the game however. I'm going with a 10-6 type game here. Jets of course
Sperm Edwards
Anyone want to guess what Bears' record... against top teams who didn't play second/third-stringers at key positions b/c of injury? 0-0 Beat: Wk 1 - GB (who would start 1-4; that lone win was vs Detroit) Wk 2 - Det (who would start 0-5) Wk 3 - Min (who would also lose 17-12 to the Bills the next week) Wk 4 - Sea (in their first game w/o Shaun Alexander) Wk 5 - Buf (a 1-win team who'd only beaten a 'fins team that would start 1-6) Wk 6 - Ari (and almost - read: should have - lost) Wk 8 - SF (sucks; coming off a 48-19 shellacking from the Bolts & a 41-0 humiliation from the Chiefs) Wk 9 - Mia (lost to a 1-6 team) Wk 10 - NYG (without Strahan, Umenyiora, Arrington, Toomer, Evans, & Short, and lost Pettigout & Madison during the game) Looks a lot like their season last year, not exactly beating up on the league's elite teams before getting beat up in their playoff game. PatsFanTX
If the Bears were in the AFC, they would be a .500 team at best. There are probably some NCAA conferences that are tougher than the NFC.
justincredible
No doubt the Bears are good but they are VERY beatable. Get pressure on Grossman and he folds like a cheap lawn chair. On the flip side, give him plenty of time all game and he will tear you apart. If Mangini comes out with a game plan like he did against the Pats then it could be a looong game for Rex and the Bears. selection7
To Sperm Edwards, with the parity of todays NFL where even the Colts squeak by bad teams, you don't go 18-2 because of well timed injuries (I noticed you guys got close to beating the Colts earlier this season...though I was referring to last weeks Colts/Bills game actually ). The 4th round rookie QB that got us 10 of our wins last year is 3rd string this season. Yes, the defense has been that good. Of course we're beatable but the offense is also vastly improved. Did I mention we've got the #1 FG kicker (25 for 25) and #2 punt returner (who would also be #1 if they included last weeks FG return for a TD)? We may have the #1 special teams unit for all I know (we did a few weeks ago but I don't know how to check that stat now). We've got the #2 scoring offense and the #2 scoring defense (points allowed). I'm actually not a big fan of stats (yes, I see the irony, lol), but it's almost ridiculous for one team to be nearly #1 in all three phases. My original intent was just to say if lady luck smiles on you guys and you beat the Bears, at least know what your team accomplished. It'll be a big deal. but in the end it will come down to this AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Actually, the safety and secondary was the main focus of the Bears in terms of offseason improvement. How much better did it make the Bears this year? It's still too early to tell but we at least have more depth and speed. Also, keep in mind the Bears beat the Panthers and kept Steve Smith out of the end zone during the regular season last year. Steve Smith isn't uncontrollable to the Bears...the Bears coaching staff just gameplanned him poorly and stubbornly in the playoffs. They know that. Everyone, especially the media, let them hear it all offseason. I have to expect they learned something from that game. zxc
Jet27
Does anyone take into consideration that the Bears have to make 2 trips to the meadowlands in two weeks? And that the Bears "played" there "we proved to all we are better than the ooppps injured Giants game". Come on Bears fans...you are going to face probably your biggest test this sunday. And you will be surprised just how hard the AFC is. Jets pound the teddy bears 27 - 14.

In this hyper-unpredictable league (where the current Superbowl champions are playing like my old high school team and the weak Cowardly Lions and burnt out Browns humiliated Ron Mexico & the Dirty Birds consecutively) ANYONE is beatable and games are won on the field, not on paper or some blowhard sports talk show. As for the injuries issue, all 32 teams are suffering with those. It's a part of the game and it's no excuse. You either play to win or get your patootie handed to you. I didn' suggest it was so easy or that Chicago wasn't one of the better teams, but again - who is it you've beaten? Early last year you beat the Panthers (only to have them spank you in the playoffs). That's about it. And last year the defense was grossly overrated. You played 6 games against GB, Minny, and Detroit - 3 of the leagues worst teams. Your dominant defense is surrendering well over 4 ypc. The defense has a higher ranking overall b/c early on you were putting up gobs of points early against crappy teams who then couldn't run the ball on you. Without Berrian to take some pressure off Muhammad, the offense isn't nearly as good unless they play a team with absolutely no one on defense (SF, NYG). Again - it doesn't mean I think you're anywhere close to a bottom-half team. But I've seen my share of ~13-win teams that were all fluff & 10-win teams that were far better. In my opinion Rex Grossman and the O-line is the biggest key to the Bears success. If they show up and protect Grossman we should win, if they play poorly then he will be running around and we all know what he does when he gets out side the pocket. I beleive that 18-2 is a bit misguided, the Bears won alot of the games last year on defense alone. I think the Bears were the only team in NFL history to completely eliminate the position of QB , win a division, and make it to the play-offs. The Bears defense is stout, but its nice to have an offense now. Grossman is playing in his 17th game, basically a rookie with more knowledge, and we are encouraged with his play. You have to remember we havnt had a half-decent QB in a long long time, and to quote one of my Bears fans from our forum. In Chicago a QB is a Luxury, not a necessity.. Good luck this weekend, and great win last week.

I was at that game with GreenBeans. Jets turned the ball over SIX TIMES. Panthers kept getting ball on the 20 or 30 yard line. They basically ran or did short run/passes to kill clock. It was a embarrasing performnace for Jets.
