toon88
While I actually like Pettite, I have to call him out as a phoney now. For someone who was so high on "family" and being close to home and singing in the choir at his father-in-laws church, and how that meant so much to him, he sure did jump at the extra $4 million the Yanks offered. If all that meant so much to him, wouldn't $12 million have been fair enough? I mean, the Astros bent over backwards for 3 years for him and Clemens and this is how he shows his appreciation? I don't get it. Thought Pettite actually WAS a guy who didn't go where the biggest deal came from, guess I was wrong. All that being said, I like the deal from the Yanks stand point. Regular season means nothing in the Bronx, but to have a 4 man rotation of Pettite, Mussina, Wang and Johnson is nuts in the playoffs.

I'm of the opinion that all that family stuff he talked about when he left for Houston was just a cover. He was hurt and angry at the fact that the Yankees decided to jump for Gary Sheffield and just made a last minute offer to him rather than actually showing him any respect at all for what he'd done in pinstripes. He wasn't gonna just come out and say "Yeah,I would've stayed in NY if they'd even acted like they wanted me to stay. But they didn't,so here I am in Houston." Again, thats just my personal opinion. Pettite never would've left if the boss hadn't gone nuts for Sheff.
#27TheDominator
I agree with a couple of the posts that state George doesn't like Pettitte. Does anybody know why? I can't see a reason. I remember back when Andy was supposed to be soft, but he showed up when it counted. Boss called plenty of dogs "warriors" and still never seemed to warm up to Andy. BTW, I don't think Pavano coming back is that big of a joke. How many people thought Kenny Rogers would be lights out in the 2006 postseason when he left the Yanks? It'd be a shock, but stranger things have happened, even in the Yankee rotation.
kloogy
Baseball is a business, even though we love our teams and players. The guy was given more money and he left. It's not like he went to Beanfart.
The Troll
the yankees don't need clemens. You can't be serious with that post. Every team needs Roger Clemens. He's a bonafide ace, who has been better than ever the past two seasons.

He's a bonafide ace, who has been better than ever the past two seasons. He had alot of trouble in the AL East 4 years younger. There is nothing that makes me think he won't 4 years older... And the yankees have great pitching depth that dosn't need to be blocked by a 45 year old.

Please define "a lot of trouble" Clemens had a sub 4.00 ERA in three of his last four seasons in the AL East including a 3.91 ERA and almost 4-1 K/BB ratio in his last season. Less hits than IP and under 60 walks on top of that. Please god, curse the entire Yankee starting staff this year by making them have "a lot of troulbe" in the AL East so they can win 115 games. toon88
no, because we have too many SPs randy moose igawa pettite wang and pavano is in limbo you never have too many SP's. especially when johnson, pavano and igawa are all question marks. adding Clemens would help the Yanks...plus it would give me yet another reason to hate them even more! Barton
no, because we have too many SPs randy moose igawa pettite wang and pavano is in limbo Doggy Dog, how many timez I gotsta spin dis 1 for ya? Igawa might not even be signed, and he might be our bullpen lefty. Pettite is an elbow injury risk. Randy Johnson? Are you high? The guy is done, he might retire. Moose always hits the DL here and there with a hamstring, not to mention his production will decline. Pavano? Pavano? Pavano? The name escapes me right now...... We need Clemens. If we get him, we will be in great great shape.
