faba
Hoops star Troutman to try out with 'Skins NFL.com wire reports PITTSBURGH (April 28, 2005) -- Chevon Troutman, who just finished a stellar career as a power forward on the University of Pittsburgh basketball team, will be at the Washington Redskins' minicamp this week in hopes of becoming an NFL tight end. Troutman, 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds, has said he would prefer to play in the NBA and still hopes to be invited to the league's pre-draft camp in Chicago in June. On April 26, the Denver Broncos signed Wesley Duke, a four-year basketball starter at Mercer. Antonio Gates, who played basketball but not football at Kent State, developed last year into a Pro Bowl tight end for the San Diego Chargers. Troutman wasn't signed to a contract but the Redskins said if he is impressive at the minicamp, he could sign a contract.
TomShane
Troutman is a far better basketball player than he'll be as a football player. Antonio Gates was an extremely physical athlete with incredible feet. Troutman is not half the athlete that Gates was, IMO. Trout is a dude who finishes extremely well and gets his shot off against bigger players consistently, IMO. If someone wants a basketball player who can play TE, the guy they need to look at is Boston College's Craig Smith.
DireJet38
HAHAHAHAHA, I read in an interview with Troutman where he stated that he stopped playing football during his junior year in HS because he didn't like getting dirty. Good luck Troutman, hope you don't smudge your lipstick.
