Out of those two lineups, I prefer the 4-3.

D-Rob isn't a nose tackle. The reason we need a fat bastard like Pouha is to take up a mass area so D-Rob is free to make plays. Robertson just wouldn't work as a nose...it isn't the best way to use his massive talent.

How bout D-Rob at DE in the 3-4?

This would give us well over 900 Pounds of beef on the D-Line in the 3-4

DE DeWayne Robertson

NT Sione Pouha

DE Shaun Ellis

With Abe baring down on the QB off the edge at OLB

That's definitely more like it.

IMO, D-Rob would thrive more as a 3-4 end than at the nose. He's also young enough to be able to successfully make a transition to end, unlike Warren Sapp was last year.

I like this defensive line rotation- free up D-Rob from the constant double teaming that he gets at tackle-Abe shift him around to come up the field from different angles- confuse the opponent's offensive line.

DRob makes sense at end in the 3-4 for 2 reasons:

1st he is a quck penetrating lineman, a NT needs to be a fat widebody to clog lanes. Secondly, having DRob at end in front of Abe as an outside LB makes alot more sense. The OL will have to decide who they want to focus on blocking, and who they want to leave man to man. That's a decision I would want nopart of.

I absolutely hate the 3-4 for our defense. It just failed to get any pressure on the QB last season.

Not to mention, Drobs talents would be mismatched in a 3-4 IMO. He's too short to play nose, and not quick enough to play end on a consistent basis going against 6'7 LTs.

Agreed. Plus the fact that Vilma isn't big enough to play the 3-4 ILB position. He needs 4 linemen in front of him to occupy blockers and leave him free to run to the ball carrier.

Apart from a rookie NT and a DE (Ellis), the Jets do not have the personnel to play the 3-4 except for an occasional change to upset a QB.

I like it but I just don't see us using the 3-4. We tried to and talked about using it and we barely used it, there was no real success in it, no reason to try it again, the 4-3 defense we have is fine.
