Many, many years ago me and my boyfriend at that time headed out from NJ to Idaho, camping along the way... never made it to Idaho but ended up in Colorado and it was the most beautiful place. Boulder was awesome, as far as a city goes... but Estes Park in the North central area was incredible... stayed for at least a week and didn't want to leave.

had my honeymoon in Estes Park 30 years ago..

spent 2 weeks there ,,loved it

Prince George?

I'm amazed that any Americans have heard of this place.

80,000 people, exactly in the middle of nowhere.

Real cold in winter, sparrow size mosquitoes in summer.

You want to trap beaver?

You want to chop down trees?

You like ice fishing?

You want to hunt moose?

You want to say eh at the end of each sentence, wear a ball cap 24 hours a day and drive a pickup truck?

You like bonding with guys? Good, because most of the women have moved to the cities.

You want to get shot for wearing anything that says Jets because they'll think you're from Winnipeg?

Sounds like heaven.

I went there for work several years ago. I remember flying into Vancouver and then getting on a connecting flight for another hour. Coming from the East Coast you can't go much further than that and stay in North America.

Chopping down trees -- the whole town smells from it. I remember it being a tense town. There is a small casino. I walked to it one night and felt like I was going to get jumped on the street. Weird place.

There's also basically no way I could live any further South than this. To put it nicely I am not a Southern kind of guy.

And Southerers 'to put it nicely' arent Northern type of guys.

USA is mixed like a mutt now.

Virtually all the tech sector people in South are Northerners. You think everyone down South is from HeeHaw..

unreal,,, thats like sayon all northerners wear neck jewelery and wife beater tshirts and have their hats on crooked

Your ignorance really shines through in this post. Your misguided view on the rest of the country is comical. You must watch too many movies, cause obviously you have never been to the above mentioned places.

Actually I have. That is where my view comes from.

The South - School systems suck and everything is too slow.

?

Well I have lived in Jersey and MidHusdon valley,. The school system in raleigh is better than the systems in Bergen County or MidHudson Valley.

Of course when you travel into the vast farm areas it drops, but the metro areas where you would live in most cases are equal or superior to most other places.

Its all new in the South, new schools, very high tech. The affluence of the tech and finance sectors in the South makes for very nice schools and very nice housing/recreational lifestyles.

You notice people Move South, not the opposite. There is a reason for that.

I have neighbors all the time that say 'Hi, I just moved from Ohio, NJ, Calif etc', but I dare say you dont meet many people in NJ, NY etc that meet neighbors that say 'Hi I just moved from Charleston, Savanahh, Raleigh, etc'

All I said is I'm not a Southern kind of guy. You don't have to take it personally. There are a number of reasons that I like living in the North and plenty more why I wouldn't want to go to the South. I'm a liberal Jew who supports gay marriage it's not like I'd be Mr.Popular down there anyway.

What? I thought the South was full of leftist jews who support gay marriage. I guess you learn something everyday.

I live in CT not Jersey. And yes people move south not north because of the cost of living. That is because it is easier to move to the south - but hard to get back north.

Bingo.

And all the retired / older folks want to retire off to a slower, warmer type of living style and the Carolina's & Florida are ideal for exactly that.

what a ignorant 1950s point of view. You clearly have no freakin idea what the South is about. Its not Rhett Butler any longer. In Raleigh area, its VERY liberal due to universities and tech sector influence. A very big Jewish population is here also, one of whom will be related to me soon.

Why do you think John Edwards was popular here as our senator? Its not like you see in the sitcoms. And I will match Chapel Hill area schools vs Conn. any day of week, any day of week.

Actually my day to day, year to year lifestyle isnt dictated by going to 8 football games a year. That why I gave up my season tix when I moved.

I prefer to live where the other 348 days of year are nicest to be. ;)

You can always fly up to games if you want. many of the guys at Jet club fly up to a few games a year.

Beans will tell ya.

The north is just too competitive. You have the best of the best. Which on top of the weather makes it impossible and not attractive to retire to. It is even hard to live here unless you and your wife are well educated and both work full time at well paying jobs. I live about 1.5 hours outside NYC and if you do not make 120-140k as a couple you can't live any type of middle class lifestyle. But the flip side is that I will have a nice egg to retire off of when all is said and done.

Why don't you get over the fact that nobody else here is high on Raleigh and North Carolina as you? You're an older gentleman who enjoys a slower pace of life and the warm weather, much like my father who lived near NYC all 56 years of his life but in August moved us up to the East Bumble**** part of New Jersey in Sussex County where we're the only house on the damn street.

Most older people are the same when they've lived in busy areas and colder weather all their lives, eventually, they want warm weather and a less busy atmosphere with nicer people (people in the South are too nice) and a slower way of life. If you like it, cool, but there's no need to knock on Jersey, New York or The Illadelph. **** Connecticut though.:)

I am not saying your area isn't nice. I am just saying I am happy with where I am at. Also you have less non-football days because your calculation was wrong. You forgot about preseason. :comb:

I don't doubt that there are liberal areas of the South, just as there are conservative areas in the North. I also never said that there aren't some great colleges in the South, hell I'm going to a public university in Virginia I certainly hope they're good. My point is in general, I think it's highly unlikely that I would fit in very well in the South and more importantly I'm a Jets, Yankees, and Rangers fan and I would go nuts if I wasn't able to go to games for all those teams. And I just very much enjoy living in the North anyway, the winters can get pretty long but the fact that there are more hockey fans up here and that Giants Stadium is an easy drive away makes it more than worth it. Also, I don't live in Jersey which probably helps my experience. :)

And I think North Carolina is somewhat more liberal than other southern states is because it has more old retired Jews there, like in Florida. ;)

Hey I agree NYC is a great place with loyts of fun stuff.. but same performers who go there come here. The few Broadway plays you go to a year , you can get on a plane for a weekend in NYC.

My only point we sometimes get bogged down in the few days a year we go to a football game or baseball game and say that I cant move because of that. I can see that train of thought for a unmarried , childless person. But for a married family person why would you bypass for your family a better environement, a better house, lower college costs (15K/year, room/board/tuition) , equal salary (if you are in tech field) etc so you can go to some football games or a few Broadway plays a year. Like I said , if you are blessed with enough income, you can always make a few of those 'enetertaiment' trips a year.

But to each his own.
