Pragmatic Bus
yes donnie edward voids his contract. that means even if we do trade vilma we can still sign edwards who is a great MLB. and if we dont trade vilma. donnie and vilma will make the best LB duo in the country

4HCrew
Edwards will go to the Saints where he wanted to go last year. Best LB duo in the country now I have heard it all.

Never. Even Vilma knows this. Clearly SD believes that they can fill his spot with someone else, given the rest of the talent at DL and LB. Truth is, while he had a lot of tackles, Edwards was hardly stuffing people at the line every week. Even with their other (considerable) talent, SD was ranked 20th in the league in rush defense in terms of ypc. If the offense wasn't so potent & LT didn't keep the defense off the field, this would have been more obvious. AJ Smith wants someone bigger & younger. If we're going to go with a 227-lb ILB, I'd keep Vilma over the 34-next-month Edwards.
DaBrick Wall
I don't understand how people complain about Vilma being too light for the system and then want someone who's even lighter than him. And by the way, Vilma and Edwards in the middle with our D-Line would be a nightmare.
chad2colesin06=---
sperm, you are an idiot, a lb in the 3-4 is only as good as his d line, what do you want him to do when he is being blocked by a guard every play because drob and von old hoffen cant take on a double team, if you give him a good d line he will be good (see ray lewis winning the mvp as a lb in the 3-4). I hate all the people who say you must be big in the 3-4 b/c that isnt true stop talking trash about vilma b/c he is an excellent ball player who is basically standing is a landfill of talent around him. he will be good if we can get a solid d line and then he will quiet all the haters. ps- hes not on the block!!! portis for vilma will NEVER happen. Pragmatic Bus
if anybody thinks donnie edward and vilma wont make a good tandem there crazy. you have 2 solid tacklers who are never out of position and never miss a tackle. the only thing is that we need big bodies upfront who can attract double teams. even bruschi took a year to get comfortable into the 3-4 and he is much bigger than vilma. According to NFL.com Bruschi is 17 pounds heavier than Vilma. But I would guess that Bruschi was Vilma's weight in his 3rd year in the NFL. If the Jets get rid of Vilma (which I doubt) it will go down as one of the dumbest moves in the NFL. Some of you guys are unreal.
Pragmatic Bus
in 4-3 when somebody made a mistake vilma had space to still make the play and cover for somebody else's mistake. LBs dont have that luxury in 3-4 so everyone has to play fundamently sound

R44
I actually looked this up a while back.....Very few linebackers remain in the NFL after the age of 33....That seems to be the "magic number" for the better linebackers and Donnie will be older than that by the season. He may string together another few seasons, but the Chargers are wise to move forward. At this point, he's just hanging in there, at best.

Pragmatic Bus
vilma is a mangini player. the only way he will be traded if somebody offers a really high top 10 kinda pick. donnie edwards might not be in his prime but he plays consistantly on a high level and has a good head on his shoulder. until we can draft a good young ILB and develope him. he can serve as a temporary relief. and he might be cheaper than guys like london fletcher or other high priced LBs

If the Jets get rid of Vilma (which I doubt) it will go down as one of the dumbest moves in the NFL. Some of you guys are unreal. I would agree with that. Vilma is a great young talent plain and simple. I don't see how the Jets could get rid of that, especially as we are already lacking playmakers on defense. To get rid of him after 1 average year wouldn't make much sense unless you are sure you're getting something amazing for it. If somebody can show me a way to lose Vilma and get another LB who is just or good or better I'd think about it, but I doubt that will happen. Just get a real DT who takes up 2 blockers and gets penetration up the middle. If that happens, complaining about Vilma will stop in a second. Yep. In the 3-4 the 3 D-lineman are the most important. D-Rob is inconsistent and Kimo blows. Until the Jets upgrade their D-Line Vilma will continue to get his ass kicked. And obviously Kimo is terrible and they need to find someone with actual talent to play DE besides Shaun Ellis. Right now the Jets LB corps is in pretty great shape if we can get a true NT our defense will be a hell of a lot better. Unfortunately I don't think there's too many of those in FA market so we'll have to draft a couple.

Hopefully you guys will draft a D-Lineman who can get the job done. Keep in mind that Richard Seymour, Ty Warren, Jarvis Green & Vince Wilfork were all drafted by the Pats. I think Vilma, Barton, Hobson, and B.Thomas easily qualifies as solid. Which one of those needs to be replaced? Getting Adalius Thomas would have been nice but we're hardly up sh!t creek without him. We just need DL help the LB'ers aren't anything we need to worry about too much.
Sperm Edwards
Donnie Edwards? Yeah, that's what we need to do. Go out and get a 34 year-old, 227-lb ILB. Mmm-kay.
