JETS CONSIDERING A TRADE UP?

We're hearing that the New York Jets are considering an effort to trade up from the No. 25 spot in round one to the top of the draft.

The Jets would like to get in position to draft either receiver Calvin Johnson or running back Adrian Peterson.

To ensure that they'll get either guy, the Jets likely would have to land no lower than No. 3.

Looks like they are looking for that gamebreaker Tyson...

Wow what have I been arguing with you in every damn thread madmike? Looks like we will get our game changer THROUGH THE DRAFT. That is our Front Offices way of thought, build in the draft not free agency.
I didn't know you either joined the draft club or the FA club and that excluded you from doing anything in the other.

But theres no reason to blow all of your wad on one big free agent and not be able to sign anything else good. If we get Thomas great but its not the end of the world if we don't.

Im scared to take Petersen.. Our #1 and both #2s would get us to 6... I wouldn't do that.

CALVIN JOHNSON IS A STUD. I'd go after him.

Might not take all those picks. There is that Vilma rumor floating around.

Thanks MM.

I guess if you're willing to give a 1 and a 3 for Turner, why not give a 1 and a 2 for Peterson? I think that's a lot to give up, but I asked for a splash and here is a hot rumor. Guess I should watch what I wish for.

I have a feeling if we move up it won't be with picks but with a player like Vilma.

I seriously doubt we try and move up in the top 3, that would cost way to much. But if we did I'd want Johnson first then Peterson. I really hope we don't try and trade our whole draft to move up that high. At most I'd give up our 2a pick which in theory could move us up to 15 I think. We could take Carriker there and I'd be very happy.

Pick 2b moves us up to #15. (720 + 330 = 1050)

Pick 2a moves us up to #11. (720 + 530 = 1250)

Pick 2a + 2b + 6 moves us up to #6 (720 + 530 + 330 + 17)

I can't see Tangini trading 4 draft picks for any one prospect, let alone one that will command a $40-50M contract.

I don't know SE-they were thinking about moving up for Reggie Bush last year-I think they'll come to their senses again though since one of the "core values" is building THROUGH the draft-I am really starting to think this Vilma thing could happen with picks involved

Actually I forgot about that. They might do it if it involved moving Vilma instead of having no other picks until #89.

If you place the value on Vilma arbitrarily at around the #10 pick (1300 points) then

1300 Vilma

720 our 1(25)

150 our 3(24)

-------------

2170 = ~2200 (since the Vilma value is arbitrary/not exact anyway)

That should be enough to move up to #3 if that's what they want to do. It would still leave us with two 2nd-rounders. Target Harrell at #37 and Beekman at #57. Someone like Dillon or Chris Henry plays HB with Leon for '07 & target Turner next year. And hope Schlegel gets better - MUCH better - in a hurry.

Problem is, Cleveland is at #3 and what the hell would they want 227-lb Vilma for in their 3-4 defense? Tampa's pick is only 1800 points, so if Vilma is still valued at 1300 then pick #57 would do the deal. We still have a first & a second. THAT I'd be on board for in a heartbeat.

But what a friggin' waste acquiring Calvin Johnson would be, only to have noodle-arm Chad throw to him. Like getting a new Lamborghini, filling it with 86-octane economy unleaded, & then replacing the tires with bald ones from an '82 Fiat.

detroit would take out first and vilma i bet and a throw in for the number 2 pick, there not really draft savy to begin with

The Lions should just let the Bear or the Packers make their first round picks for them. They would probably do better if they were trying to make bad picks.

It would be for Adrian Peterson, not Calvin Johnson.

This trade would include Jonathan Vilma because now that Fletcher-Baker has signed in Washington, they are no longer in need of a 4-3 MLB. It would obviously be the #25 overall, a 2nd rounder & Vilma to get up in Detroit's spot (they would love I'm sure to pair Ernie Sims up with Jonathan Vilma).

If they are going to do it, they must think very highly of Adrian Peterson. I don't think they would give up that much for Calvin Johnson b/c we already have 2 great WR's.

Or maybe we could take Brady Quinn and then trade him to somebody else so the Phins' dont get him. ;)

Brady Quinn would be great, but may have more needs on the Oline now, and to possible trade down to get another first day pick may help out a lot.

I think Calvin Johnson is a once every 5 years player. The Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer. He is a slam dunk and will be a dominant force. And if what I think is correct you need to take him if you are the Jets. I'm not so sure Mangini loves Coles anyway. Jmho.
