124
Vinny is dead to me for signing with New England midway through last season. That being said, he didn't win a ring there and I'd gladly welcome him back as a mentor to Kellen. Hey, if Chad had an arm and could stay healthy Vinny's words and mentoring really could have payed off full fledge.
#27TheDominator
Vinny Testaverde and Kerry Collins were big, stupid qbs with cannons. They were also turnover machines. It makes no sense to hire guys like that to "mentor" a young player. That's like signing Jeff George as a "mentor." Chad is a great mentor. Probably much better mentor than player. If they bring one of those 2 in it's as a emergency if something happens to Chad. Not the least likely emergency.

#27TheDominator
If thats true, it's an admission that they flushed a 2nd round pick. Why? The team needs 3 qbs. Chad isn't an ironman. If he goes down and Clemens starts then who is the backup? Some 6th round pick? I doubt it.

#27TheDominator
Brad Smith. Wait. Which thread is this? Brad Smith is so smart and picks up offense so quick that he seemlessly took over the #3 wr role. There will be no problem with him picking up an intricate audible based offense over this off-season in addition to his wr and trick plays position. ECURB
Brad Smith. Not sure if your serious or not... but I really think he is a realistic option at #3 for us. Brad Smith - 2005 college stats 2304 yards throwing - 13 TDs - 114 QB rating 1301 yards rushing - 16 TDs Kellen Clemens - 2005 college stats 2406 yards throwing - 19 TD's - 153 QB rating 228 yards rushing - 0 TD's Obviously Kellen is the better QB, he is more accurate, stronger, smarter ect... but Smith can get the job done if needed IMO
AVM
Just throwing this out there....as mike in particular, and others, talked about the SI journalists just assuming things, thats exactly what this is. He doesn't even say the Jets have been in contact with him, he's speculating by saying Vinny would be a good fit. Just saying..

Wasn't Chad at his best when Vinny was mentoring him & helping him out on the sideline? And Collins I think blew Chad away on his Wonderlic, as long as "stupid" is the word being used to describe him. I knew some people who knew him & he is a lunkhead. What that says about Chad, I don't really know. But it isn't flattering. How smart do you have to be to get half wrong on your wonderlic? How smart do you have to be to insist that Paul Hackett is a good OC? How smart do you have to be to try to lecture the NY media? How smart do you have to be to never learn how to move up in the pocket? How smart do you have to be to wait an extra 3 weeks to go on vacation before getting your necessary shoulder surgery; one which will require 7-8 months of rehab (at least) so you may better serve the organization that has paid you so handsomely by the start of the season? How smart do you have to be to realize that all those millions he's made means he doesn't have to get his hair done at "Great Cuts 8 Bucks" anymore? How smart do you have to be to listen to & watch Herm Edwards for 5 years and still insist he's a good coach? And he makes a TON of stupid, stupid decisions on the field. He gets credit for being WAY smarter than he is around here.

You're questioning Chad's intelligence for towing the company line and never saying anything bad about a teammate or coach. It's true that may be dumb, but it's what Mangini is looking for. The player that will run through a wall for his coach is not the smartest, but he is the coaches favorite. Chad makes a ton of dumb mistakes on the field? I don't really agree, but Wonderlic or not, compared to Kerry Collins he's a genius. 72 tds & 46 ints career. Compared to Collins 174 td & 172 ints. That's not too bad, but factor in fumbles. Pennington fumbled 30 times in his career. Collins fumbled 121 times! Ten a year! Sure he didn't lose them all, but you can't convince me that Fassel was teaching Tiki and Collins to fumble. Some of that is on him.
