NYTuna
According to Jets Confidential Dan Leberfeld on Sirius NFL radio sunday afternoon, the jets will consider the possiblitiy of going into 2007 with Chad and Kellen. They will look into using the 3rd qb slot to potentially carry an extra LB, special teamer or any defensive player. The feeling would be if the jets needed an emergency qb, they would feel confident using brad smith in that scenerio rather than carry an extra qb. personally, remember we are talking about the 3rd qb position, i think the move makes alot of sense. It would be great if it works. Roster spots are such a premium it'd be nice to actually have another position player available. Problem is if we have a QB injury during the season it would be hard to find anybody at that time of the year to be of any use to us. Unless ,of course ,we bring back Vinn....... Quote: 8. Things should start heating up on the backup quarterback market. Raiders quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo visits the Browns on Monday and has a trip planned to the Jets, who cut Patrick Ramsey. Brad Johnson visited the Broncos. Joey Harrington will get cut by the Dolphins in the next couple of days. Oh, yes, the Raiders are looking for a starting quarterback. CoachTsurfing
I think this is going to blow up in our faces. But, if it works Clemens would get lots of reps and really help him develop quicker. It would also get Smith some reps as well and enable him to do some even more things. The more Smith touches the ball the more we confuse opposing d's. Jets | Jets to bring in veteran QB Sun, 4 Mar 2007 11 8:01 -0800 Tom Rock, of Newsday, reports the New York Jets will probably bring in a veteran QB who can act as a mentor and push QB Kellen Clemens from the No. 3 spot. Unrestricted free-agent QB Vinny Testaverde (Patriots) is one possibility.

Vinny T back where he belongs ( he just never looked right in that fag Patsie jersey) as I mentioned in post #2 of this thread. Tanned, ready and rested !! nyjunc
I don't see that happening w/ Chad's history of injuries and let's not forget Clemens wasn't exactly durable in College. I will be shocked if we go in w/ 2 QBs.
Sperm Edwards
I think the idea is to say there is an open competition at the position & that everyone has a chance to be the starter. Mangini doesn't want to waste valuable tc time with a Kliff Kingsbury type & give him 1/3 of the snaps. There is no real purpose to bringing Vinny in now. You can bring him in at any time later on. I'm pretty sure he'll be available.

If roster spots are at a premium then why didn't this team have a full practice squad or roster for a good part of 2006? A 3rd qb doesn't really cost an active roster spot because he is inactive, but available to play in the event of injury. Sperm's idea makes sense. Open competition and sign some old relic going into the season. Except how will that old relic be expected to become familiar with the offense? uart
Brad Smith as the #3 QB? Well, considering I was going to suggest drafting someone in the 6th-7th round... Yeah, Brad Smith will work.
docdhc
They aren't going to go to camp with only 2 QB's, they need bodies to play the exhibition games. Maybe the final roster will have only 2 but I wouldn't put much stock in what Leberfeld has to say.
chad2colesin06=---
exactly, tannenbaum was quoted as saying you cant have too many qb's so they obviously wont go in with only 2 when they have cp10.
DaBrick Wall
There are pros and cons to this. Chad's never a sure thing to go a whole season, and if he gets hurt, then we have an inexperienced "WR" manning the backup position. However, considering what's on the market, Smith might be just as good as one of them or a 6th-7th round pick. I just can't shake the memories of 2005, though... 4HCrew
If Vinny comes back it is a pure joke.. if anything I would not mind drafting a guy in the later rounds 6 or 7... and I guess the Jets would not bring in a Collins or Brad Johnson so Clemens can continue to get reps
Maxman
Well if they do this they will need at least 1 more starting Tackle and a guard on the line. Make that the focus if this is the goal.
joewilly
no way do the jets go into the 07 tc with 2 qb's. brad smith #3? makes no sense to me unless they're so impressed with him they think they can groom himm to take every snap one day. I think it's more important to turn him into a #3 receiver than #3 qb but they definetly can't groom him to be both
