Are the Yankees f'n crazy?

Recommended Posts

That is the way the baseball system works.

The first 4 years, you are beholden to the organization. Sometimes, unfairly so. After that, basball is beholden to the players. Many times, fairly so.

It is the system that was collectively bargained for. Tooth and nail by the player union, too. The most powerful unionin all of sports.

It happened with Howard this year. Reyes and Wright a couple of years ago. Pujols, 4 years ago.

In baseball, you pay your dues before you get the fat contract.

Just the way it is. Not only with the Yankees.

And by doing so they will cost themselves millions.

You can't say that.

If they are the real deal, they will get the money anyway.

if you sign a young player to a long contract extension, and then he gets hurt, what have you cost your franchise then?

Just the way baseball works.

The yankees should be doing with Cano and Wang what teams like the Mets and Indians have done with their young players.

They are. Reyes and Wright waited for their payday also.

SO now you're gonna nickel and dime the guy who has been the CORE of this team for 10 years? They have been underpaying him for YEARS.

Are you paying a player based on past performance, or are you paying him on future expectations?

Thats a foolish rational. The REALITY is that for baseball players money = respect. Why would the yankees want this guy to feel disrespected?

Baseball is first and foremost, a business. It does not exist to have friendly get togethers and back slapping moments where everyone feels good about themsleves, and about the job they do everyday.

Rivera is under contract. For a contract theat he agreed to. The Yankees are under NO obligation to negotiate a new contract with him before his contract is up. Rivera is under no obligation to re-sign with the Yankees.

A business decision. Happens all the time.

I never said they were under an obligation. I just said they should take take of him. You know whats good business? taking care of your most productive employees.

Mike, You will realize this once you venture out in the real world-That is fairy tale wishing. Good luck with that.

This is baseball not the real world. Regular working stiff has no other options. Mo rivera does.

How exactly are "working stiffs" not available to options in their career? Huh?

You know what, if Rivera blows his arm out today, he gets paid his full salary.

And the yankees get that money back from the insurance. Whats your point.

Do they have a policy on Rivera? The majority of contracts don't have policies, as I understand them.
