Jones Deal contingency

I did not read this until now-This deal is contingent on the Jets signing Jones to a deal, for the deal to be consummated.

This gives the Jets some leverage. If Jones really wants to be out, and wants to be a feature back, he may give up a little $$ and sign now.

A little edge to teh Jets, and it appears they can back out if the $$ is too rich. That would place Jones and the Bears in a tough spot.

Jones is going to run great behind N.Mangold... We now have a rusher who care tire the Defenses out and L.Washington will be a GREAT change of back behind Thomas Jones. I almost wanna go Offense with out 1st round picks, draft a run blocking gueard and a slot wr, i really think this Jets Offense can be one of the best next season

I look at this as great news. I wouldn't want to make a deal like this without either a contingency like this or already having the deal in place (ala' Branch to the Seahawks)

yeah the deal was agreed upon before the trade - it was something like 12M up front.

"In addition to the basic terms of four years, $20 million, we're told that Jones will get $13.1 million in the first two years, $12 million of which will be guaranteed."

If this is the deal I don't think its too bad for 4 years. 12 million gauranteed is OK but the fact that he's getting most of his money in the first 2 years makes it fine for me since I think 2 years is the minimum he'll give us in terms of production. This way we can cut him after year 2, I'm assuming.

Sounds like an alright deal, Sperm correct me if I'm wrong...

If this is true, it is a great deal for the Jets. TJ has a minimum of two years of producing in his "prime". And in these two years he will be financially taken care of for his effort, hopefully creating a happy camper.

We are also not forced to draft a RB this year in what is pretty ugly class of RB's. We can wait until the right RB at the right draft pick comes along next year or in 2009.
