GREEN FIEND
One of the recent trends in the League is having a two-headed monster at runnningback. It's beneficial to have a change of pace to keep defenses off balance and it's always nice to have quality depth at one of the most bruising positions in football. With Dillon leaving the Pats, Tiki retiring, and us getting Thomas Jones, it seems that the powers may have shifted. Many are saying that Jones is in the Top 10-15 range among runningbacks individually, but where would you rank our rushing attack of Jones and Washington against the rest of the NFL? madmike1
It never stops, does it? What? The 10th or 13th best running game in the NFL would be a MAJOR improvement.
AVM
You'll have to forgive mike..he enjoys being miserable, unlike the rest of us who want to trust the front office b/c we know if they are as moronic as he implies, then our beloved Jets are screwed for the remainder of Tangini's reign, which is probably at the least, 4 more years(basing that off of woodys incompetence to drop Herm). Add in the fact that it would probably take another 4 years(that is, hoping that we get THE coach the next time), which means we'd be atleast 8 years off of even competing. So let mike go on and be miserable, while the rest of us hold on to the hope that Mangini and company know what their doing, for the sake of our sanity. But as far as the tandem....it depends on the line. Could be top 10, but thats if a lot of things go our way.
GREEN FIEND
What? The 10th or 13th best running game in the NFL would be a MAJOR improvement. Yeah, I guess that's true. If we draft Blalock in the 1st round I think we could crack the (dare I say it) TOP 10. Oh, and if we sign Columbo......there's going to be too much optimism on this board for you to handle. Sperm Edwards
What did mike say wrong? We got Thomas Jones behind 3 piss-poor run blockers and no fullback and a poor blocking TE. We didn't get Tomlinson plus 3/5 of SD's OL plus Lorenzo Neal.
JohnnyCans
I think this is a post where Madmike is actually pretty rational. And he wasnt getting on the FO at all in his post. 10-15th in the league in rushing is alot better than the 30 spot where we were last league. An example of me being miserable is me saying that we have a top 15 running game in the NFL? Come on. If the jets rank in the top half of the NFL in rushing next year after last year i'd be thrilled. madmike1
Teams that have better running games then the jets: Saints Jags Chiefs Chargers Eagles Bengles Steelers Colts Broncos Seahawks 49ers Thats 11 teams. Putting the jets at 10-15 is perfectly reasonable.
oktaren
its really hard to say. they are both definitely talented and we have plenty of potential in the running game. but it really depends on what happens from here on out. i definitely want to see a new rt and another guard in the draft. madmike1
Also Falcons Rams Redskins Cowboys and whoever gets Adrian Peterson Hmm For the falcons i guess you're counting vick. I like our RB's better then Theirs. Rams you're right. I'd take Jones and Washington over Betts and Portis if only cause of injury issues with portis and i'm not a betts fan AT ALL. Cowboys i'd say we're even with Barber probably being the best back on both teams but Tom jones is better then his brother.
Arsis
I'm not so sure I like guessing how good the jets running game is gonna be in regards to other teams just yet. We could trade for/sign/draft 0-line help and jones and washington could both have career years and we could be top ten. Especially if there are a few injuries to a guy like LT or reggie bush. Or there could be an unlucky injury for us. I would have to say right now, on paper, we're a little bit below 15th but much better than 30th. Because at this stage of TJ's career he wasn't near his brother's level. But right now, yeah Thomas Jones is better than his brother. Yards aside, what matters ultimately is putting points on the board & I don't see Jones & Leon punching it in 18x in one season. Atlanta you have to count Vick. One, because he IS integral to their running game. Two, because how many yards does he take from the backs with designed rollout runs? Three, because they haven't even really used Norwood yet. One RB with 4.0ypc and another with 6.2ypc trumps us. Washington's ground game is better. Or it was last year when they had Dockery. Don't know what kind of an impact that's going to make. Certainly when healthy their ground game is better. But even with Portis' injury, they still put up 2200 rushing yds (#4 in the NFL) and had a stout 4.52ypc. I didn't realize that washington was 4th in the NFL in rushing but i find it hard to believe they will repeat that. Barber's TD really have nothing to do with why i like him. Alot of RB can have alot of TD's if they get carries in the right situations

Alot of RB can't have alot of TD's if they get carries in the right situations 4th in yards, and that's with Atlanta (with Vick getting 1000 yards of his own) putting them down even that low. Truthfully, I get more impressed with ypc than total yards. Total yards can be partly a function of a good defense that keeps giving you the ball back. But a high ypc means you get the yards when you need them. Washington was 4th in yards, but only 8th in attempts. It's not like they were 4th in yards because they were 2nd or 3rd in attempts.
