Could be a fit for us maybe? I know he's old but if he's right the price why not take a shot and then draft someone in a later round.

Henderson says Packers will release him

Despite his own admission that he had been informed of his release, fullback William Henderson was still on the Green Bay Packers' roster Tuesday.

Henderson told WBAY-TV in Green Bay, where he hosts a Monday night show during the season, that he was told he would be cut by the Packers. However, Green Bay has not made the move yet.

The Packers have, however, begun looking at alternatives to Henderson.

Atlanta free-agent fullback Justin Griffith arrived in Green Bay on Tuesday night and is expected to take part in an official visit today. The 5-foot-11, 232-pound Griffith, 25, is an experienced fullback in the zone-blocking system, having started 26 games the last two seasons for the Falcons, one of the teams the Packers have copied for their running game.

Besides blocking, Griffith is a decent receiver, averaging about 22 receptions during his four seasons in the NFL.

The news regarding Henderson doesn't come as a total surprise given he turned 36 last month and lost his starting job to 25-year-old Brandon Miree last season. The 6-1, 252-pound Henderson was a better fit for the power-gap system the Packers ran before Mike McCarthy took over than he was for the zone-blocking scheme.

Henderson and quarterback Brett Favre are the two remaining players on the roster from the Super Bowl XXXI team. A third-round draft choice in 1995, Henderson has missed only four games in 12 seasons despite playing a heavy dose of special teams.
