Dolphins discuss deal for Green

BY ARMANDO SALGUERO

asalguero@MiamiHerald.co

The Dolphins are among several teams that have been contacted about making a trade for Kansas City quarterback Trent Green.

Green was asked to take a pay cut or seek a trade during a meeting with Chiefs general manager Carl Peterson this week. Green is seeking a trade through his agent, Jim Steiner, and it is believed the Chiefs will take a late-round pick for Green.

If the Dolphins agree to trade for Green or sign him as a free agent, it would be an indication that general manager RandyMueller and coach Cam Cameron are uncertain of Daunte Culpepper's future.

Culpepper is rehabilitating the surgically repaired right knee that forced him to miss most of the 2006 season.

MARE UPDATE

Olindo Mare knows his $2.1 million salary-cap number, a roster bonus he is due soon, his subpar 2006 and the Dolphins' flirtation with free agent kicker Jay Feely are ominous signs.

But Mare isn't going anywhere -- at least not yet.

Feely left Miami and returned home to Michigan on Tuesday without a contract. The New York Giants made an offer to retain him, and Kansas City and Atlanta also are involved.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, likely will not make a roster move with Mare until they have another kicker in their sights.

Despite this, Mare is prepared for the possibility he might follow veterans such as Kevin Carter, Joey Harrington and Randy McMichael out of Miami.

McMICHAEL INTEREST

McMichael might not be a free agent for long. A day after the Dolphins cut the tight end, four teams -- the New York Jets, Oakland, Denver and Seattle -- were showing interest. No visit, however, was solidified.

COMINGS AND GOINGS

Defensive tackle JeffZgonina will visit the Houston Texans today. . . . Fullback Darian Barnes wraps up a two-day visit with the Jets today. . . . Defensive end David Bowens left a visit with the Jets without a contract.

so glad i'm not a dolphin fan.

Im good friends with a few... I always love stuff like this... makes it more fun to rub in the fact that I am NOT a Phins fan... lol

SO the have a QB that can barely walk on his knee...

One named Lemon... he already is a Lemon.... lol

And now they might get Green, who if it werent for Herm Edwards would have been carted off the field on a stretcher never to start again... but Herm gave him the job back anyways...

Cam is really cleaning house down there.

Bringing Porter in was a good move, and their D might keep them in some games.

But I still think they take Quinn, and let him sit a year behind a vet, whether it's green, dante, or someone else.

I don't know if brining in a 30 year old Lineback is the key to revitolizing a team built around 30 year old (plus) defenders. He would be better served to trade tayler while he's still worth something to contenders.

Their D will keep them in games, but there is no way they win more than 5 games next year, not even mentioning two years down the road.

trent green took one too many shots to the head, plus he hasn't been a top qb in some time. maybe he'd flourish with a better WR core but he won't find that in miami.

Trent was a product of great coaching from vermeil, i don't see him reliving his passed (even with better WR's) in Miami.

miami
